I just realised that the calibration certificate of my analogue microphone may contain the information required to enable one to do a calibration for absolute SPL without the need for an SPL meter.

My mic's sensitivity has been measured to be -41.3dBV. This translates to 8.61mV for 94dB SPL, 1kHz. It seems that all that is needed is for the user to apply 8.61mV (in my case) to the input of the mic preamp and to tell REW that this represents 94dB SPL. Looks like REW will allow it. Perhaps safer for the sound card to not apply an external voltage directly to its inputs, but to set it up acoustically. One would still need access to the mic inputs electrically, though, to measure the voltage.

Has anybody done this?
