(October 27, 2025) MartinLogan has announced the return of a familiar name in low-frequency performance with the launch of the Grotto Series. Building on decades of experience in subwoofer design, the new Grotto 12 and Grotto 15 bring modern power, precision, and digital control to a line first known for delivering exceptional bass in compact, living-room-friendly enclosures.
According to Allan Tarrant, Senior Vice President of MartinLogan, “Subwoofers have been a key category for us at MartinLogan for over 20 years. As the latest addition to our new subwoofer lineup, we couldn’t be more happy for the Grotto namesake to return with such fanfare.”
The new models feature the company’s largest and most powerful Hybrid Woofer Systems to date. Each subwoofer combines an active aluminum driver with dual passive radiators of equal size, creating the output and efficiency of a ported design while maintaining the tight, controlled bass associated with sealed enclosures. The Grotto 12 uses a triple-12-inch array, while the Grotto 15 scales the architecture to triple 15-inch aluminum drivers for extra extension across demanding home-theater and two-channel systems.
Powering those drivers is MartinLogan’s proprietary Magnitude MT-2kW amplifier, capable of 2,000 watts peak (1,000 watts RMS), which is paired with the Ultra High Resolution Vojtko DSP Engine, a 500 MHz processor offering 64-bit operation. This platform controls all performance parameters in real time and enables advanced tuning features, including wireless signal integration, preset modes, and support for Anthem Room Correction (ARC Genesis).
“After the release of our new Dynamo and Abyss models, people kept asking us about larger, even more powerful subwoofers,” said Tarrant. “Consider the veil of secrecy lifted.”
Each Grotto subwoofer is constructed from one-inch MDF with internal bracing and reinforced baffles. The design emphasizes rigidity and acoustic isolation while retaining the minimalist styling that has become a MartinLogan hallmark. Integrated anti-vibration feet further reduce energy transfer to floors and adjoining rooms, ultimately resulting in cleaner bass and improved clarity.
For daily use, the system includes both a back-panel control interface and the MartinLogan Subwoofer Control App (iOS and Android). Users can fine-tune volume, phase, low-pass filters, or choose between dedicated Movie, Music, and Night modes.
The Grotto 12 offers a frequency response of 22–120 Hz (±3 dB), while the Grotto 15 extends that reach to 20 Hz. Both feature wireless transmitters, RCA and XLR inputs, and speaker-level connections. Weights range from 82 to 118 pounds.
Andrew Lindsey, Product Manager at MartinLogan, reflected on the project’s significance. “The original Grotto was the first MartinLogan product I ever owned, and it remains in use to this day. The new Grotto 12 and Grotto 15 more than carry on that legacy, delivering massive output capability and incredible refinement—all in a subtle, stylish design that can pressurize even larger rooms.”
The Grotto 12 is priced at $2,299.99, and the Grotto 15 at $2,799.99 USD. Both are available in Gloss Black finishes through authorized MartinLogan retailers.
