(August 2, 2019) Marantz’s latest receiver announcement takes a step back from the world of multi-channel home theater, aiming squarely at high-class stereo performance that’s flexible enough to be paired with a TV or multi-media system. And priced at $599, the all-new NR1200 is easy on the wallet, giving enthusiasts budget flexibility for other parts of their preferred system design.
Graced with a gorgeous low-profile design that’s dripping with quality physical details, the NR1200 has been built from scratch. Internally, it features a newly designed, fully discrete, 75 watts per channel amp section (8 ohms, 20 Hz – 20 kHz, .08% THD), crafted with high-fidelity in mind. Its accompanying dual differential DACs, custom power capacitors, and symmetrical left and right power blocks contribute to a finely-tuned output that Marantz’s Emmanuel Millot (Sr. Director Brand Management at Sound United) says “delivers Marantz’s sonic signature.”
The receiver’s other features, such as five modernized HDMI inputs that support full 4K 60 Hz video, HDCP 2.3 streaming copy protection, HDR10 High Dynamic Range, Auto Low Latency Mode (for Xbox One gamers), BT.2020 color, and Audio Return Channel functionality, allows multiple sources to be fed to a television via a single HDMI cable.
“We have seen a resurgence in demand for a high-performance two-channel receiver that enables people to enjoy a superior entertainment experience versus a traditional soundbar without making the leap to a multichannel AVR,” says Millot. “Its slim, sophisticated design makes it the perfect bragging piece for any entertaining space.”
Connectivity-wise, the NR1200 provides multiple streaming options through HEOS Built-in, including access to the likes of Amazon, Spotify (including Spotify Connect), and TIDAL, along with Bluetooth and Apple AirPlay 2. Additionally, HEOS opens the door to whole-home audio, allowing the NR1200 to stream to other HEOS gear.
Aside from standard front-side USB support for typical Hi-Res audio formats, the NR1200 also houses a phono input for vinyl lovers.
On the convenience front, the NR1200 offers basic playback voice control via Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple Siri (when paired with corresponding products) and complete control using Marantz’s AVR Remote app (iOS/Android). It also gives owners access to a simple Setup Assistant and tone controls.
The Marantz NR1200 network receiver is scheduled to begin shipping in just a few short weeks, with an availability date of August 15.
