Los Angeles, CA – Academy Award®-nominated* director Mamoru Hosoda’s captivating film The Boy And The Beast will be released on Blu-Ray™ and, for the first time ever, on 4K UHD on March 17th, 2026 by GKIDS, with distribution by Shout! Studios. The Boy And The Beast (Limited Edition Steelbook) (4K UHD) will be available as an Amazon exclusive, and The Boy And The Beast Blu-Ray™ will be available for purchase at all major retailers as well as through GKIDS and Shout! Studios.

Special features include “Making Of The Boy and the Beast”, a promotional video collection, cast commentary, key staff commentary, and teasers & trailers.

Kyuta, a young boy living on the streets of Shibuya, is taken in by Kumatetsu, a rough-around-the-edges warrior from the Beast Kingdom, who's been searching for the perfect apprentice. Despite their constant bickering, Kyuta and Kumatetsu begin training together and discover that master and student each have lessons to share. But when a deep darkness threatens to throw their world into chaos, the bond between this unlikely pair will be put to the ultimate test in this emotional and action-packed epic.

The Boy And The Beast release is part of a series of all-new 4K UHD releases of Hosoda’s early film catalog, including the 2006-time travel adventure The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, his seminal 2009 feature Summer Wars, and the critically lauded 2012 hit Wolf Children. One of Hosoda’s most recent films, 2021’s BELLE, a fantastical, heartfelt story of growing up in the age of social media, was also released on Blu-ray™ and 4K UHD by GKIDS with distribution by Shout!.

Hosoda’s six feature films have all been nominated for, and five have been awarded, the Japan Academy Prize for “Animation of the Year.” Hosoda remains the only Japanese animation director outside of the famed Studio Ghibli to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature. Hosoda’s latest film, Scarlet, will have an exclusive IMAX run beginning February 6 before the fantasy action animated film expands nationwide on February 13 next year.
