Recently, in the news and on radio, there have been an increase in mail theft reporting.
In particular, unauthorized individuals are using stolen/lost mailbox keys to open and take mail from mailboxes and in particular those blue stand alone mailboxes or cluster boxes in neighborhoods and apartments.
On the radio and news, they mentioned to use model 207 pens that are anti fraud capable. The ink can't be washed out essentially.
Hopefully nobody here was a victim of check theft and check alterations.
Radio and TV news mention to never put outgoing mail in these boxes and to always check for incoming mail daily. If you have to send mail, go to the post office directly.
