Apologies if this has been reported before but my search results yielded nothing.

I am setting REW up on my Mac for the first time. Unfortunately, REW cannot find the mic.
Getting "The data from the mic is all zeroes. REW may not have permission to access the mic...".
I have given the REW app permissions and restarted multiple times but no joy.
I am on version REW, 5.30.8 running Azul systems, JRE 1.8.0_402 on OSX 14.2.1. (Sonoma).

Thanks in advance!

Post a screenshot of your REW soundcard preferences and the Mac's Audio Midi Setup utility view of the mic input.

REW V5.30.8 startup on 09-Feb-2024 11:20:59 running Azul Systems, Inc. JRE 1.8.0_402 64-bit on OS X 14.2.1

Locale: language en, keyboard GB, UTF-8 at 128 DPI

2024-Feb-09 11:22:02 Error: Check mic access permission
The data from the mic is all zeroes, REW may not have permission to access the mic. Go to System Preferences, click Security & Privacy, then click Privacy. Select Microphone. Select the tickbox next to REW to allow it to access the microphone. If the box is already selected, deselect it, accept the prompt to quit REW then reselect the box.

You have left the device settings as default, so REW can't tell how many channels the input device has. The right channel is selected as input but the mic is mono, so there's likely nothing on the right channel. Select the actual input device, or pick the left channel as input and it should start working.

Great, just bear in mind the laptop's mic is little use for making measurements as it will be noisy, is affected by the laptop chassis and is often processed and/or limited in bandwidth to help it pick up speech.
