(September 20, 2022) Kaleidescape's movie server lineup is changing, with the company replacing its 18TB and 72TB servers with two completely new options. The compact 18TB Terra server has been discontinued in favor of an all-new compact 22TB server ($10,995). Capable of storing over 350 4K UHD movies, or over 650 movies with a mix of 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD-quality titles, the compact Terra 22TB can feed up to five different Strato C players with 4K UHD content, while being paired with up to three other compact Terra servers (including 6TB and 12TB variations) in a single system.

Kaleidescape's former flagship 72TB server has been replaced with an 88TB behemoth. Priced at $25,995, the Terra 88TB stores roughly 1,500 4K UHD titles while serving up to 10 players with simultaneous 4K UHD playback. It also allows for fast downloads while simultaneously supporting playback on multiple Strato players. Extremely reliable, the Terra 88TB movie server stores high-fidelity movies on an array of high-quality, enterprise-class hard drives and is designed to continue operating on the rare occasion of a hard drive failure. If a failed hard drive needs to be replaced, movies are automatically restored from the cloud.

“Kaleidescape is committed to acting on customer feedback, streamlining our product line to meet our wide range of customer needs in the 4K UHD era while maintaining the unrivaled quality, faster download speeds and seamless playback experience that define Kaleidescape,” said Tayloe Stansbury, CEO, Kaleidescape. “This new server lineup offers five different storage capacities, spaced roughly a factor of two apart from each other.”

The company has also announced an exciting new partnership with Josh.ai, a proprietary voice control system that continues to lead the industry in natural voice recognition and customer privacy. Deep-linking integration with Kaleidescape enables Josh.ai’s proprietary voice control to launch any title saved to a client’s content library. Kaleidescape customers are now empowered with contextual voice commands, like: “Ok Josh, watch Indiana Jones!”

Like magic, Josh.ai can adjust a theater’s lights, close the drapes, drop a screen, and launch a film on Kaleidescape. Its elegantly designed app remote UI offers navigational control of Kaleidescape menus and enables clients to create their own custom scenes, like “Movie Night,” to set the perfect cinematic mood.

Once Josh.ai is deployed, each Kaleidescape device is automatically detected on a network along with downloaded content. As part of the Josh.ai AV setup workflow, Kaleidescape Strato players are configurable as input sources to be routed across applicable video zones. Beyond native control in a standalone Josh.ai and Kaleidescape-powered home theater, Josh.ai can also control Kaleidescape players when they are routed through Crestron SIMPL, Crestron Home, and Control4 video distribution.

In addition to the efficiency of contextual voice automation, Kaleidescape partners will benefit from Josh.ai’s strong stance as a privacy-focused voice assistant, purpose-built for professionally installed smart home systems. Customers will have peace of mind knowing that Josh.ai is committed to providing a delightful and inclusive voice experience without sharing or selling user data for marketing purposes.
