(October 16, 2025) Today, JVC has released a free firmware update for its D-ILA DLA-NZ800 and DLA-NZ900 projectors, along with the corresponding RS3200 and RS4200 models. The company says the new software delivers “incredible upgrades” that enhance image precision, control, and user experience. To support the launch, AV NIRVANA is releasing a conversation with JVC’s Rob Budde on YouTube, where we discuss what this update means for current owners and how it reflects the brand’s ongoing development philosophy. You can watch the interview here, or keep reading to learn more about the company's latest feature enhancements.
The new firmware introduces Frame Adapt HDR Vivid, a completely reworked HDR picture mode designed to expand dynamic range and color expression. Building on JVC’s scene-by-scene and frame-by-frame analysis, the mode delivers more impactful highlights and deeper blacks while maintaining the natural tonal balance that defines the D-ILA platform. The company describes it as a way to create a more dimensional image, helping subjects stand out from the background without distorting artistic intent.
To support that new HDR engine, JVC adds Highlight Color Control, a tool that maintains saturation and chroma in high-intensity scenes. Owners can choose between Low, Mid, and High settings to balance brightness against color retention. The benefit is clear: more perceived brightness and visual punch without the dulling or clipping that often accompanies aggressive tone mapping. It’s an especially meaningful upgrade for HDR content mastered at higher brightness levels, where fine detail and highlight color are easy to lose.
Another improvement arrives through refinements to MPC (Multi Pixel Control). A new Smoother function minimizes compression artifacts—like mosquito noise—that can appear with streaming content or overly sharpened discs. JVC says the result is a cleaner, more natural image that preserves fine edges while reducing artificial texture. Combined with the brand’s 8K e-shift processing, this update helps maintain a filmic, high-resolution presentation across all content sources.
For gamers, the update introduces Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). When connected to a compatible console or PC, the projector now switches automatically into a low-latency state. Frame Adapt HDR, Laser Dynamic Control, and Clear Motion Drive are disabled in this mode to reduce processing delay, keeping response times tight and ensuring fast, fluid gameplay on large screens.
The firmware also refines system navigation and setup. A new on-screen guide explains each mode in plain language, and OSD brightness control has been added to maintain visibility in dark environments or during HDR playback. Menus remain readable even as overall image brightness shifts, making calibration and adjustments easier to perform in real time.
Speaking of calibration, JVC’s updated software now allows for direct targeting of both color temperature and gamut, streamlining high-precision adjustments. Improved accuracy with the latest sensors and a simplified workflow make fine-tuning quicker and more consistent.
The company also brings more flexibility to customization. The ADVANCED key on the remote can now store personalized settings, allowing users to recall their favorite modes or adjustments instantly. It’s a small but smart change that makes switching between content types or lighting conditions more convenient.
The firmware update is available now as a free download for the DLA-NZ900, DLA-NZ800, DLA-RS4200, and DLA-RS3200 projectors.
In celebration of the release, JVC has launched a limited-time sale offering $2,000 off the NZ800 and $1,000 off the NZ900.
