JVC Injects Its Flagship RS4500K Projector with New Firmware

22995

(July 1, 2019) So the strong get stronger, or something to that effect. JVC has officially dropped v2.00, a significant firmware update for its world-beater projector DLA-RS4500K. The RS4500K is JVC’s top flagship model, carrying the company’s unique BLU-Escent laser phosphor light source that’s capable of 3,000 lumens of brightness. Included performance boosters address tone mapping, JVC’s new Panasonic collaboration, and new screen adjustment modes. This marks the projector's fifth official update since its 2016 launch.

On the tone mapping front, the newly installed Auto Tone Mapping functionality taps HDR10 metadata (both Maximum Content Light Level and Maximum Frame Average Light) contained in a video stream to adjust settings for optimum picture performance. This eliminates the need for manual adjustments, however owners can still opt to adjust brightness levels or select one of several fixed values.

Owners sourcing media from a Panasonic DP-UB9000 4K UHD Blu-ray player now have access to one of two specialized color profiles. These profiles are designed to work hand-in-hand with the UB9000’s HDR Optimizer function, which tone maps HDR content to match the capabilities of the RS4500K.

Finally, the RS4500K now carries 165 different screen settings (up from 135). These settings correct for color balance across an impressively wide range of screen materials and characteristics.

If you’re lucky enough to have a DLA-RS4500K resting in your home theater room, click here for full download information.

Looks like this partly from last year’s NX5-9 series... which makes sense.

I’d love to have that 3,000 lumens... I saw this demoed at CEDIA 17 and it didn’t disappoint. HDR was really impressive.

I think these are going for $24k-ish these days, if that helps any
