(May 15, 2025) JBL has taken the wraps off three striking new loudspeakers in its Summit Series lineup, launching them at HIGH END Munich 2025 and extending one of the most visually and sonically iconic ranges in the company’s history. The new additions — Summit Makalu, Summit Pumori, and Summit Ama — join JBL’s legendary K2 and Everest models, offering listeners a fresh look at high-end performance through the lens of JBL’s flagship engineering and industrial design. Each is named after a Himalayan peak and priced to match their lofty ambitions, starting at $19,995 and topping out just shy of $45,000 per pair.
Makalu, the new flagship floorstander, leads the trio with scale and presence. Its architecture features a 12-inch woofer and 8-inch midrange driver, both made from JBL’s proprietary HC4 composite cone material. At the top of the design, a D2 compression driver feeds into an HDI Sonoglass horn, a signature pairing intended to deliver pinpoint imaging and dynamic impact. The cabinet — either in rich ebony veneer with gold accents or piano black with platinum trim — is contoured, braced, and designed for both beauty and acoustic stability. The Makalu is priced at $44,995 per pair.
Next in the lineup is the Summit Pumori, named after a Himalayan peak known as the “Daughter of Everest.” This 3-way floorstander is built around a 10-inch woofer and 8-inch midrange driver, again supported by JBL’s D2 compression driver and HDI horn system. It shares the same sculpted cabinet design and elegant finishing options as the Makalu, but is voiced for balance, musicality, and refinement at a slightly smaller scale. Retail pricing is set at $29,995 per pair.
For listeners with tighter spaces or a preference for standmount designs, the Summit Ama offers a 2-way configuration with an 8-inch HC4 cone woofer and the D2/HDI driver-horn combo. This model distills the clarity and precision of the Summit Series into a compact format, pairing with a dedicated steel-and-aluminum stand for optimal performance and visual symmetry. JBL has priced the Ama at $19,995 per pair with stands included.
Of course, these aren’t just high-performance speakers — they’re pricing and finishings allow them to stand as tuned luxury objects. Each cabinet is built with extensive internal bracing to minimize resonance, and premium materials abound: rhodium-plated carbon fiber binding posts, JBL’s MultiCap crossover components, and adjustable IsoAcoustics isolation feet across the entire lineup. From aesthetics to sound, every Summit Series model reflects the company’s design-first approach to ultra-high-end audio.
"With these new models, we are honoring our heritage while pushing the boundaries of sound reproduction further than ever before," said Jim Garrett, Senior Director of Product Strategy and Planning at HARMAN Luxury Audio.
All three loudspeakers are scheduled to ship globally through authorized JBL dealers later in 2025. For more details, visit jbl.com/summit-series.
