Guys all this is up in the air but I wanted to get an idea on projectors and screens since I have never owned one before. If I move forward with this it will be in the family room most likely and I would have to remove the projector out of the way when not watching movies.. Having said that I will be able to mount the screen on the wall but I wont be able to mount the projector on the ceiling.
I want to know...

1. Can I just place the projector on a stand or something?
2. Can I connect a bluray player to it to receiver the image/sound? (I am totally new to this)

Also is this a good starter one? https://www.bestbuy.com/site/epson-...-3lcd-projector-black/7585002.p?skuId=7585002

You can mount the projector on a stand, but obviously you will have to have a clear line of sight to the screen. You could also look at one of the short throw projectors.

You connect the Blu-ray player to the AVR and the AVR HDMI output to the PJ... works well. Of course with the one you linked to above, it is wireless, so you'd need to make sure your AVR has wireless output. I am not that familiar with that unit, but perhaps some others may be.

Thanks Sonnie! Oops I didn't mean to choose wireless. I didn't even know it can be wireless I just happen to pick one out randomly. I like to stay wired better.
Also how does lumen work? The lower the number the better or the other way around?

I would look at what Projector Central says about the lumens... as they always seem to be way over-rated. In the real world they are less, so actually measured lumen will be important if you are not planning on having a complete light controlled room.
