Hello folks: I am planning the layout / locations for ATMOS speakers and I think I meet all the recommendations in the "Dolby Atmos® Home Theater Installation Guidelines". One think that is not clear is the location of the ATMOS speakers relative to the surround speakers. All diagrams show them next to the surround speakers, except the configs where the front and rear ATMOS height speakers are on the wall. In these cases the height speakers are behind the surround / front speakers. In my case the ATMOS middle and rear height speakers will be about 2 feet in front of the surrounds. Is that still a valid config?
Getting them to line up with the surround speakers will be a pretty significant modification.

What do you guys think?

Thanks for your help!

I think you are just fine with the L&R Surrounds at 105° as the Dolby Atmos Installation Guide allows placement of these to 110°. These speakers are not "coupled" to the overhead speakers. I think the diagram you've shown have them near by just for convenience. It's maintaining the individual geometry that's important IMHO. Your AVR is supposed to adjust for the different placements for all of the speakers relative to each other as measured when you run it's speaker setup function (Audyssey).

Hi Pratul,
it is looking ok, I would say. Yeas, the screen loudspeaker angle is little narrow, but that is the way it is - if you do not wish to start moving your TV set & speakers into the room. The front/rear top surround angular distance measured from the sweetspot should be more or less the same. As newbie, I'm not allowed to share links in this forum so far, however please check Dolby web-site for DARDT - The Home Entertainment Dolby Audio Room Design Tool (DARDT_HE), currently in version 5.3.7. It is rather complex tool for Atmos studio design, however may give you an indication about speaker placement and even equipment power if you wish to.
