(February 26, 2026) At the Florida International Audio Expo, I sat down with Chris Shaw of Focal to explore the company’s new Mu-So Hekla, an all-in-one 7.1.2 immersive solution. Compact in size yet surprisingly authoritative, Hekla packs 15 drivers and 660 watts of Naim amplification into a single enclosure, delivering tight, lively bass down to around 30Hz without the help of an external subwoofer. Even in a challenging hotel conference room, its ability to deliver a convincing immersive soundfield was impressive.
Beyond the hardware, the real intrigue lies in Focal’s proprietary Adapt processing, which uses simple room measurements rather than a microphone to calculate time alignment and reflections. We also talked shop about beam steering, Sphere listening modes designed for real-world seating layouts, HDMI eARC integration, and how Hekla fits into the broader Focal and Naim multiroom ecosystem.
At $3,600 and shipping through Focal Powered by Naim dealers in mid March, this speaker is clearly positioned as a premium lifestyle solution. The full interview dives much deeper into what makes it tick and why it might surprise even seasoned enthusiasts, so click below and give it a watch!
