Hi everyone.
I'd like to know what limitations and advantages FireWire 400 has over USB 2.
If I decide to buy a sound card with this port, what compatibility issues might I encounter? Its primary use is for measurements, but I'm not averse to other secondary uses, such as audio playback through speakers or other applications. That's why this information would be very useful and interesting to me.
Bye and thank you.

IMHO USB is way more compatible with current and future host devices than firewire. Technically both interfaces are just transferring data anyway, good audio devices have conversion master clocks on their sides. Well engineered (especially multichannel) USB2 highspeed devices use the packet interval of 125us, just like firewire does.

Firewire died off 20 years ago when Apple switched to Intel, who didn't support it. There's no reason to consider it for anything new in 2025.
