I am developing an application to be used when equalizing Yamaha AVRs in conjunction with REW´s API feature.

The app would sync PEQ filters from REW to Yamaha receivers, making equalization easier and quicker.

A downside with Yamaha AVRs is their limited PEQ, which I have not been able to fully replicate in REW. This leads to a workflow where I have to first setup a generic equalizer similar, but not equal to, a Yamaha receiver. Once REW has done the eq, I then have to check the frequencies, q values, and cuts with what is available on the Yahama, and do another round where I only optimize gain/q based on the predefined values selectable in the Yamaha.

Would it be possible to create an entry in the list of equalizers that would support the predefined values of Yamaha AVRs, if I provided them?

Or is there a way today to limit it this way already? (generic is not enough)

Thanks for a great application,
Philip

That's unfortunately not sufficient in this case. I've played around with that option, but the only option that matches the Yamaha PEQ is the gain range. The factor which decides frequency is dictated by 1/X octave, and the factor which decides Q factor is a function which I have not yet deciphered.

On the Yamaha units of the previous generation (e.g. RX-V685, RX-A1080, RX-A2080, RX-3080), the options are as follows:

You have a 7 band PEQ selectable with the below options (1/3 octave). On top of this, there is a restriction that only 4 bands can be used below or equal to 400Hz. All 7 bands can be used above 400Hz though.

Frequencies:

15.6 Hz, 19.7, 24.8, 31.3, 39.4, 49.6, 62.5, 78.7, 99.2, 125 Hz, 157.5 Hz, 198.4 Hz, 250 Hz, 315.0 Hz, 396.9 Hz, 500.0 Hz, 630.0 Hz, 793.7 Hz, 1.0 kHz, 1.26 kHz, 1.59 kHz, 2.0 kHz, 2.52 kHz, 3.17 kHz, 4.0 kHz, 5.04 kHz, 6.35 kHz, 8.0 kHz, 10.1 kHz, 12.7 kHz, 16.0 kHz

Q: 0.5, 0.63, 0.794, 1.0, 1.26, 1.587, 2.0, 2.52, 3.175, 4.0, 5.04, 6.35, 8.0, 10.08

Gain (0.5 dB increments) : -20.0 to +6.0 dB

On the current Yamaha Aventage units (A4A and above), you have the option to select a much finer selection of frequencies (1/12th octave) for speakers:

Frequencies: 15.6, 16.6, 17.5, 18.6, 19.7, 20.9, 22.1, 23.4, 24.8, 26.3, 27.8, 29.5, 31.3, 33.1, 35.1, 37.2, 39.4, 42.0, 44.2, 47.0, 49.6, 53.0, 55.7, 59.0, 62.5, 66.0, 70.2, 74.0, 78.7, 83.4, 88.4, 93.6, 99.2, 105.1, 111.4, 118.0, 125.0, 132.4, 140.3, 148.7, 157.5, 166.9, 176.8, 187.3, 198.4, 210.2, 222.7, 236.0, 250.0, 264.9, 280.6, 297.3, 315.0, 333.7, 353.6, 374.6, 396.9, 420.4, 445.4, 471.9, 500.0, 529.7, 561.2, 594.6, 630.0, 667.4, 707.1, 749.2, 793.7, 840.9, 890.9, 943.9, 1.000, 1.060, 1.120, 1.190, 1.260, 1.330, 1.410, 1.500, 1.590, 1.680, 1.780, 1.890, 2.000, 2.120, 2.240, 2.380, 2.520, 2.670, 2.830, 3.000, 3.170, 3.360, 3.560, 3.780, 4.000, 4.240, 4.490, 4.760, 5.040, 5.340, 5.660, 5.990, 6.350, 6.730, 7.130, 7.550, 8.000, 8.480, 8.980, 9.510, 10.100, 10.700, 11.300, 12.000, 12.700, 13.500, 14.300, 15.100, 16.000 Hz

For subwoofers you have a 4 band PEQ with selectable frequencies:

15.6, 16.6, 17.5, 18.6, 19.7, 20.9, 22.1, 23.4, 24.8, 26.3, 27.8, 29.5, 31.3, 33.1, 35.1, 37.2, 39.4, 42.0, 44.2, 47.0, 49.6, 53.0, 55.7, 59.0, 62.5, 66.0, 70.2, 74.0, 78.7, 83.4, 88.4, 93.6, 99.2, 105.1, 111.4, 118.0, 125.0, 132.4, 140.3, 148.7, 157.5, 166.9, 176.8, 187.3, 198.4, 210.2, 222.7, 236.0, 250.0 Hz

Q: 0.500, 0.630, 0.794, 1.00, 1.260, 1.587, 2.000, 2.520, 3.175, 4.000, 5.040, 6.350, 8.000, 10.080

Gain (0.5 dB increments) : -20.0 to +6.0 dB

I am unsure if REW is able to handle this specific logic, but if you could have a selection of two different Yamaha receivers (the new Aventage or the older models), and then limit the selectable frequencies, as well as Q factor, that would be a major improvement.

The logic which dictates how many PEQ filters that can be used above a certain frequency selection is something I think the end-user can handle themselves (e.g. only selecting 4 PEQ filters if optimizing below 400Hz).
