I have no IMAX gear and no experience with IMAX but I am curious to know if the IMAX Enhanced Mode makes a difference in the sound. Apparently when IMAX Mode is ON it works in the background.

Yes, I've experienced the audio, here at home, and both the audio and video at industry events. To be completely honest, I can't hear a definitive difference between IMAX Enhanced and Atmos/DTS:X. It all sounds incredible to me.

Thank you Todd! This makes me feel better as I am getting the upgrade bug lol.

It may make more of a difference for IMAX capable video gear. Not sure.

I'm trying to remember what the IMAX rep told me about the audio mix.... and I can't dig up specifics. I want to say that IMAX Enhanced is a customized audio mix intended to bring that loud and proud IMAX theatrical experience to the home. But, like I said, it's not something that stuck out to me (at least not yet).

I'm sure we could figure out a fun way to upgrade something in your system tho!! :-))))

Loud and proud, I think going up on the volume takes care of that like with DTS/ATMOS lol. I think I should focus more on upgrading to a 4K tv but my good old plasma Samsung F8500 is still going strong.

That's what I would do... One of those new OLED models with 4K source material from a Penny 4K player would elevate your game. That's something you'll definitely notice!!

Do you think this is an upgrade from my Samsung F8500 plasma? The F8500 has deep black levels and I think in order to see a difference I would need to step up to a high end 4K tv. This LG I think is not high end OLED.

Good question. OLED also has deep backs because, like plasma, pixels can turn off. I’d guess that you might not see a drastic difference for 1080p content. But, if you fed the OLED 4K HDR (from a disc), then your eyes would fall out of your head and your perma-smile would annoy the neighbors.

How about a short throw laser projector? I've seen the Epson in action. Impressive!
