After getting my JVC DLA-RS620 in and ready to install, I learned that the projector mount that holds my Panasonic 8000 would not work on the JVC. Instead of ordering another one, I got to thinking why not just build a ceiling shelf. The ceiling in our room was originally 1/2" sheetrock and when I built the room I added 3/4" plywood and another sheet of 5/8" sheetrock. So... there is plenty enough solid to attach a shelf that will hold up well.

I had some leftover 3/4" MDF from when I built and installed the MartinLogan EM-IC's in the ceiling for Atmos. It was a fairly simple task that ended up taking a couple of days to finish in between doing fifty-eleven other things.

I like the way you think Sonnie! Do you notice any heat build up or is there plenty of air circulation? I would imagine that design completely eliminates vibration.

I made sure there was plenty of ventilation all around the unit... no vents covered.

My guess would be less vibration, but I don't really know. The ceiling is coupled to a fairly large beam across the room for structural support, given the load of the ceiling with 3/4" plywood and 1-1/8" sheetrock... green glue, screws, paint, etc.

Fire up one of those movies with heavy bass & we'll know for sure. I can't imagine that box will vibrate, but the PJ might (doubt that also) unless it is mechanically attached.

Nice work... looks great!

If you're sub is delivering enough to induce a vibration, your head is going to be shaking anyway ;-))

Thanks... it shakes my entire body at times. I can't help myself. :dunno:

Cool idea, looks future-proof, too!

Sonnie, the only problem I see here is the power chord.

It's just not beefy enough to handle that projector

ha-ha... There are some who would sell that $10 power cord for $100 or more.

I generally build all my power cords, mainly to decorate them with techflex and get them the proper length they need to be and not have to worry about excess cord. I tuck the original away in the box.

Now I'm curious.

Did you take the stock power cord and strip it down? Or do you have a giant spool of cord and various components?

It looks super nice! I noticed similar looking cords in your HT room pictures. Finished and high-end!

You missed this part:
I tuck the original away in the box.
I have a spool of wire and lots of connectors... and I ordered a bunch of colored tech flex from Hong Kong on the cheap. Heat shrink... heat gun... connect away! They make for really nice power cords. I use the Isobar surge protector on all my outlets.
