Today is the start of Disney +

Anybody subscribe?

Any thoughts?

variety reports lots of issues..
"Multiple users on social media said they had trouble signing in to Disney Plus when it first went live, while others said they had problems accessing specific content or using features (like setting up profiles or watch lists). Irate users vented online, sharing screenshots of errors messages that said “Unable to connect to Disney+.” One of the error messages, appropriately enough, showed characters from Disney’s “Wreck-It Ralph” and “Ralph Breaks the Internet” movies (pictured above); another one shows Mickey Mouse and Pluto in spacesuits adrift on an asteroid."

Disney + has over 10 million users and keep in mind it just opened yesterday!

from avclub,

"It may have suffered some technical hiccups on launch, but Disney+ is already massively successful for Disney, which reports that over 10 million people signed up for the streaming service in its first day. "

Anybody here using Disney plus? Any thoughts so far?

I paid a little over $100 bucks for 3 year subscription. I used it the day it went live, and it worked fine for me. There is a lot of content. Some content won't be available until later (Dec. 2 or so) due to contract to other companies. For example, The Incredibles 2 not available on Disney +, but still available in Netflix until Dec 2nd. I think the amount of content that you get is excellent for the cost. I mainly got it for my kids, but I have found some older movies in there that I have started to watch again with my family. My kids really like Sister Act 2.

Glad to see you are enjoying it and yeah, as time moves ahead, they (Disney) will pull all their stuff from netflix and other streaming channels.

How do the older shows/movies look? Quality is good?

I heard via the news sites that folks don't like "The Simpsons" since disney plus modified the aspect ratio..

I am still rocking a 65” 1080 Samsung LED HDTV. So, the quality was good. I would say DVD 720p quality.

The only reason I’d get it is for the new Star Wars content, but I refuse to go along with these individual provider apps at the current pricing tier.

And the new Star Wars content Disney has been creating hasn’t completely won me over anyway. If I have any interest in the Mandalorian, it’s more as a source of eye and ear candy than being truly excited for the content.

Curious, though, is the audio through the Disney app 10db down from every other app like their discs?

There's been some discussion about audio on Twitter. Lots of folks talking about A New Hope and Empire Strikes and audio... but I call shenanigans because those are hardly reference on disc. Also, some raving about Atmos on these films, but you could up convert a disc and probably get a very similar experience. Also, impossible to tell what kind of system they are using.

Bill Hunt at the Digital Bits graded the 4K Star Wars releases here: https://thedigitalbits.com/columns/my-two-cents/111319-1800 and gives decent scores for the audio.

after reading the Digital Bits article, I don’t NEED to watch them.

Never has a truer statement been made, than that the Greedo scene has become Gen X’s Zapruder film.

This did remind me, though, that I need to grab the 4K77 releases.

Yes... after further investigation, you're right.

You can grab them off of newsgroups as well. Which reminded me that I grabbed A New Hope and Return of the Jedi at one point in time but have yet to look at them.

Looks like hackers are onto Disney +

Hopefully Multi Factor Authentication is in place here..

I saw that and was pleased that I‘m not signed up.

I bought 3 years for a little over $100 dollars. The system will get better as time goes by.

Per Disney, the hacking is not on their site. Looks like the hackers got it from other sites and people are using the same email address and passwords.

from cnn,

"Disney (DIS) said in a statement that there is "no indication of a security breach on Disney+" and that it takes "users' data very seriously."
Disney+ itself does not appear to have been hacked. Instead, Disney+ customers' credentials were stolen in other security breaches. Many people use the same email logins and passwords for multiple accounts, including the streaming service, which have been stolen during previous security breaches."

Best if people use new email address and passwords from other streaming sites and not to be repetitive..

update on this channel.

from yahoo,

  • Disney announced on Tuesday that its streaming service Disney Plus had gained 28.6 million subscribers since launching on November 12.
[*]Hulu, which Disney owns, had 30.7 million subscribers as of Monday, the company said.
[*]In Netflix's most recent earnings report, the company said it had 167 million subscribers worldwide and 60 million in the US.
[*]While Netflix exceeded expectations globally last quarter, it missed growth targets in the US, and Disney Plus' strong showing could be one reason.

They will have more marvel original shows soon. I suspect that will get a lot of folks back into the service.

Disney stated they are rolling out a lot of original Marvel shows soon so more content will be available shortly. :)
