Dialing in HDR on a projector

Yeah... I've read some of it, but haven't gotten into any of the calibration part of it yet.

Just to close this loop: the fix for good HDR turned out to be easy... make sure the projector has a gamma setting of HDR(ST.2084) while in the HDR viewing mode.

For some reason mine didn't default to that on factory settings (or I inadvertently switched settings).

4K/HDR material looks fantastic now!

HAHA! talk about a little tweak. Glad you finally got it worked out

I use a Epson 9300 how would I go about getting a HDR(ST.2084) gamma setting

Phew... I wish I knew more about the HDR settings on Epson PJs. On the JVC, you need to get the PNJ into HDR mode, then go into the settings menu and look for gamma. Gamma has several different presets, one of which is ST 2084. Epson could potentially have a gamma preset that's in that realm.

I have a EPSON contact, I could reach out to him if you're having trouble.

Thanks for the offer Todd
I think all Epson owners struggle with HDR even with the latest firmware HDR is too dark
there are 4 preset but unnamed Gamma settings,
and you can also use custom but there is no specific target
luckily I have a setting suggested by a AVS member that gives me wide colour gamut but uses SDR and I get a useable image

HDR on many PJs is tough. As I eluded to in another thread, the limiting factor is peak brightness and black levels.

JVC throws a GREAT image... let me see if I can get some info for you that might help with 4K/HDR. I know how frustrating it is to run a 4K disc and feel like you're getting a less than Blu-ray experience.

That would be appreciated thanks

I'm all ears with my 4040.

I just acquired a Spyder Pro5... going to run it with JVC's auto cal when I have some time. Hopefully will have some interesting results to post vs the stock ST2084 gamma mode.
