(Denon) The all-new AVR-2500H will be released during May 2018
(April 26, 2018) Budget-conscious buyers are getting a spring treat thanks to Denon and a bevy of new AV Receiver options officially launched today. The company’s refresh of X-Series and S-Series receivers present options ranging from $279 to $799, loaded with plenty of modern tech including multi-room wireless functionality and full 4K compatibility.

According to Richard Velazquez, global head of brand management at Denon: “The X-Series and S-Series refresh demonstrates our commitment to remain lockstep with the evolution of the smart home theater. Amazon’s Alexa Smart Home Skill for whole-home audio voice control enables effortless use, an industry-leading setup process reduces out-of-box headaches and all the latest tech reduces near-term obsolescence.”

Headlining the group are two X-Series receivers capable of powering mid-range home theater experiences. The AVR-2500H and AVR-X1500H both offer 7.2-channels of performance and HEOS built-in for whole-home wireless functionality. They offer 95 watts per channel (8 ohms, 20 Hz – 20 kHz, 2 channels driven) and 80 watts per channel, respectively, with onboard decoding of both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. Decoding also includes legacy codecs such as DTS-HD MA and TrueHD, while sound processing options include a virtualized immersive sound experience for standard multi-channel layouts using DTS Virtual:X.

Sound quality on the new X-Series gear is honed by 32-bit/192kHz AKM DAC (AKM4458VN) converters for all channels, with room optimization by Audyssey’s MultEQ XT auto calibration and Audyssey’s MultEQ editor app (available for iOS/Android at an additional cost). Hi-Res audio support includes compatibility with ALAC, FLAC, WAV (up to 24-bit/196- kHz) as well as DSD 2.8MHz and 5.6MHz.

The step-down S-Series has four new members, consisting of the AVR-S940H, AVR-S740H, AVR-S640H and AVR-S540BT, with the 7.2-channel S940H offering the most power output (90 watts per channel). The S740H also offers 7.2-channels of performance (75 watts per channel), while the S640H (75 watts per channel) and S540BT (70 watts per channel) can run 5.2-channel arrangements. All but one of the receivers carries some version of Audyssey MultEQ technology, with the S740H and S940H both offering compatibility with the optional MultEQ editor app.

All six of the new receivers offer full compatibility with modern 4K demands, including 4K/60 Hz video, High Dynamic Range (HDR10, Dolby Vision, HLG), HDCP 2.2, and wide color.

The AVR-X2500H ($799), AVR-X1500H ($599) will be available in May 2018, while the AVR-S940H ($579), AVR-S740H ($479), AVR-S640H ($379) and AVR-S540BT ($279) are now available at authorized dealers.
