DC’S Legends of Tomorrow has notoriously been the dark horse of the Arrowverse universe. It started out goofy as all get out, and didn’t try to stick to the darkness and angst ridden method of the DC Live Action show runners like Arrow and Flash. The series was lighthearted, and after a couple of seasons started to just get into the groove of being a comfort food escape from the dreariness of a serious comic book show. It’s part of what made the series run for so long being that it was originally comprised of guest stars from Arrow and The Flash. However, all good things must come to an end, as The CW has decided that this will be the final season of the long running series, leaving only Superman and Lois and The Flash (which only has one more season I believe) left of the CW DC live action shows remaining.
Legends of Tomorrow suffered a lot during the Covid 19 pandemic era. It suffered from a weak 6th season as the show runners couldn’t rotate out the revolving door of cast members as easily, and it just limped into the finale with original Legend Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell) leaving the series. The 7th season picks up where the season left off, but also feels like it’s playing it safe and taking advantage of a post Covid 19 world by shrinking the universe down a bit. The show starts out with the wave rider being destroyed by an “alternate” wave rider, and the characters having to figure out how to get “unstuck” from time (luckily we have a handy mcguffin in the way of a portable time travel device to fall back on).
Had the show stuck with this premise for the entire season I could have given this a better score. But unfortunately the show pulls a switcheroo in the latte half, changing up the arch villain of the season for what seems like no reason. Something the other Arrowverse shows have done now and again. My suspicion is that it was due to Covid 19 shakeups that were still going on at WB, and probably something to do with playing it safe. Bishop takes over the main arch villain for the first half, but the second half just ditches him completely so that evil Gideon can take over and start replacing world leaders with robot clones. As such, it’s kind of a mess and the show limps into the finale a bit more than I would have liked.

Final Score:

Legends of Tomorrow has been the staple junk food comfort show of the Arrowverse for many years, but it really has started to run out of ideas. The over reliance on being a gigantic revolving door of team mates has hampered it like all of the CW Arrowverse shows, but in realiy the death knell for this one is simply running out of ideas. The episodes have become rehashed and redone so many times that there's only so much you can redo. Not to mention the rest of the CW shows (outside of The Flash and Superman and Lois) are winding up anyways. It's nearing the end of an era, and while it's sad to see a show go that I enjoyed so much, it's also best to let it go as the only direction left is. Like usual, the Blu-ray is excllent, although barebones extras and only a single audio and subtitle track leave something to be desired if you're a non native English speaker. Decent watch if you enjoyed the show up till now.
