Hi guys,

One of my hobbies outside of AV is playing chess. I learned how to play in 7th grade and ever since then I have been playing.

If you viewed my showcase theater page, you might have noticed something on the poker table like the below.

That something, which I keep under a plastic type clear box is a chess set that has an Indian theme (Royal Maharaja Chess Set).

My wife during her travels bought this set when traveling in India many years ago as a 40th birthday gift to me many moons ago.

Attached are some pictures for your enjoyment.

If you are interested in seeing more of the pieces, let me know and I can upload..

Thanks for viewing this thread.

Wow... very nice! I know how to play... use to play a while back, but it just requires too much thinking, so I gave up on it.

Yeah, it is a thinking man's game that is for sure. Even thou I love to play, I rarely play. My wife doesn't like to play nor do my kids.. They think it is too time consuming.. It is only enjoyable when playing against another so for the time being, my chess set just stays under the plastic clear cover. :)

Beautiful!

Definitely upload a few more pics... I enjoy seeing craftsmanship on stuff like this!

Thanks Todd. Will do with more pics of the individual pieces.

Here are more pictures of the various pieces. All are hand painted as one can tell and finely crafted by hand and machine tools.

I was very happy to have received it from my wife from her world travels.

Highly recommended.

(click on each attachment below and it will come up in a new tab with the picture)

Bishop - Camel
Knight and Pawn - Horse
Rook/Queen/King - Elephant

Beautiful set, trippelj.

I love chess, just don't have the opportunity to play. Few know how and no one has the time, it seems. I do have a basic set with plastic pieces, love to have a nice set someday.

I agree, knowing chess is great at working the mind and keeping one always thinking of endless possibilities, have to always think of the next move.

It is too bad that not too many people want to learn or even have the desire to learn this game.

I used to play all the time. Started when I was about 10. Even made my own board in Jr. High. Have had many sets, wood, glass and even a Star Trek 3D set. My favorites were from Fidelity (cause you didn't need an opponent) had a couple of different Fidelity including a Mini Sensory Chess Challenger, a Sensory Chess Challenger and I still have a Fidelity Genesis Chess Challenger that I break out every once in a while.

Nice to have more chess players on this forum. :)

I tried to play chess on the computer but it is just too hard for me.. I rather go against a human where I have a chance of winning. lol. :)

Wow. Those are nice. Thanks for sharing!

The kings are fantastic!

Funny, I don't like playing on the computer either but I do like playing against the Fidelity computer. Maybe it's something to do with having a physical board and pieces and the tactile feel of actually moving the pieces, even though you have to move your opponents piece for them.

From the picture you may not be able to tell but there is a little guy (king) sitting in the carriage on top of the elephant. :)

I never heard of a Fidelity computer where you have to move pieces manually on a board. I am sure the interaction is the reason you are able to play on this type of computer. :)
