New features and changes:
  • Beta 8 has a couple of changes to help with layout on lower resolution screens to improve useability. The waterfall controls overall width was stopping the graph from being made narrower, their width has been reduced and the way controls affect the graph width has also been altered. There is also a new View preference to show or hide the toolbar, hiding it makes more vertical space
  • There is a welcome message on startup, with pointers to initial steps to take - the check box at the bottom the screen allows that to be hidden if preferred
  • RTA graph images captured with the distortion panel showing now also include the RMS level panel so the input level information is available
  • There is a new 50 Hz 1/3 octave step for the RT60 and Filtered IR graphs, but bear in mind that in typical domestic rooms behaviour there is dominated by modal resonances. It is more relevant for large spaces.
  • To help with stepping through the filter bands on the Filtered IR graph there are new controls for the filter frequency with selection boxes to enable/disable filtering and next and previous buttons
  • Support has been added for 32-bit and 64-bit float PCM data when importing impulse, audio and sweep WAV files. If a WAV file being imported has two channels they are labelled left and right rather than 1 and 2.
  • 352.8k and 384k sample rate options have been added for exporting the filter IR, the sample rate is also appended to the default filename
  • A 192kHz sample rate option has been added when using Java drivers on Linux - this is experimental, on Windows 192k can be unstable and not produce consistent measurements.

There are also a few bug fixes:
  • The predicted phase did not update when the impulse t=0 offset was changed
  • When a Frequency Dependent Window was being applied the phase response was incorrect if the win ref time was not 0
  • When using a USB mic with ASIO4All there could be multiple requests for the mic cal file on startup if the cal file did not have a sensitivity figure
  • Exporting an impulse response that had only a short non-zero portion could result in a file that was all zero valued
  • Import audio files did not work for mono WAV files
  • Import sweep recordings could give incorrect results if the current REW soundcard sample rate was less than the WAV sample rate
  • The output channel selector was incorrectly disabled if output selection was not available
