CAPERNAUM, Lebanon’s Academy Award® Nominee for Best Foreign Language Film, arrives on Blu-ray™, DVD and Digital March 26 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Directed and co-written by Nadine Labaki, CAPERNAUM features a cast of non-professional actors led by Zain al Rafeea in a heart-breaking debut performance as a young boy fending for himself under dangerous circumstances. The film has received rave reviews from critics, including Vogue’s Chloe Schama who declares, “CAPERNAUM is relentless” and Peter Travers of Rolling Stone, who has called the film “an emotional powerhouse.”
In addition to earning an Academy Award nomination, CAPERNAUM was nominated for Golden Globe and BAFTA Awards for Best Foreign Language Film and won 3 awards at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, including the Jury Prize and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury. The film was also an Official Selection at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. Special features available on the home entertainment release will include an insightful commentary track with director/writer Nadine Labaki and composer/producer Khaled Mouzanar, a Q & A with Labaki, Mouzanar and actor Zain Al Rafeea and a featurette detailing the process of bringing this heart-wrenching story to life.
Synopsis
Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, CAPERNAUM (“Chaos”), a new film by Nadine Labaki, depicts the journey of a clever, gutsy 12-year-old boy, Zain, who survives the dangers of the city streets by his wits. He flees his parents and, to assert his rights, takes them to court, suing them for the “crime” of giving him life.
CAPERNAUM is produced by Khaled Mouzanar and directed by Nadine Labaki. Written by Nadine Labaki, Jihad Hojeily and Michelle Keserwany in collaboration with Georges Khabbaz and Khaled Mouzanar, the film stars Zain Al Rafeea, Yordanos Shifera and Treasure Bankole.
