Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone can help me?

I'm having some trouble with the initial configuration of input and output devices in REW.

I'm using an Alienware 17R3 laptop connected to Yamaha RX-A3060 and Samsung PS59D6900 TV over HDMI.
The laptop has a discrete nVidia 980M GPU, which is driving the HDMI output.
I've got a 7.1.4 Atmos configuration and have the Atmos enabler installed in Windows.
I have a UMIK-1 18dB microphone connected and recognised over USB.
I'm running Windows 10 x64 1803 build 17134.706.
All of the latest Windows updates are installed.

I've been following the excellent Getting started with REW guide (v5.50, March 15th 2019).

I've set the HDMI output as the default sound device, configured sample rates to 24-bit, 48KHz. and set levels.
I've done the same thing for the UMIK-1 and it is also set at the default input device.
I am able to successfully record and playback using Windows voice recorder with the UMIK-1 and HDMI sound output.
Windows is configured for 7.1 output, and I can successfully test each speaker from the Windows control panel.

Initially, I attempted the REW setup using v5.20 beta 8 (64-bit), JRE 8u212 and ASIO4ALL v2.14.
When I was unable to configure devices successfully with these versions, I reverted back to v5.19 with included JRE and ASIO4ALL v2.13.
The results are the same with both software combinations.

Basically, when I try to configure the input and output devices in preferences, I don't see the discrete HDMI output for the speakers (which I know can be normal).

Following on from that, I then try to configure the microphone input. but the UMIK-1 is not shown in the list. I see the following:

If I then select the ASIO control panel, I see:

and am unable to enable the nVidia audio output, or the UMIK-1 with play icons next to them.

In addition, I've found that there is a Soundblaster ASIO library installed, as per the following screenshot:

If I select the sounblaster ASIO, then the output box still only has two choices, which are 1: Front L/R and 2: Front L/R.
For the input, then I see 1: Mic L/R, 2: Mic L/R and then 3 and 4 entries with no comment next to them.

I'm completely stumped on how to configured the microphone input. as nothing seems to match what the guide suggests.
I understand that the output section might just be the normal behaviour for my laptop.

Would really appreciate some pointers on what might be going wrong.

Thanks,

Andy.

I've solved part of the problem.
The Soundblaster device in control panel was allowing applications to take exclusive control.
I've turned that off, and now the ASIO control panel shows the playback icon next to the nVidia output, and I see all of the different HDMI outputs for each speaker in the dropdown.

However, I still can't select the UMIK-1. When I look at the input section, I now see two entries:
1: Not Connected 1
2: Not Connected 2

Still, it's some progress.

Anyone got any thoughts on why I still can't select the UMIK-1?

Thanks John. Will have a read and see if it helps. I did manage to get the UMIK-1 recognised once, but I'm not sure how.
Haven't had much time to look at it this week, as it's been really busy at work.
Will report back when I've got time to look at it properly.
