I don't work for them, but I have to say, I'm a fan.

I put in a new Bosch dishwasher a couple years ago. I did a lot of research, as I wanted to find something as quiet as possible. I have an open floor plan upstairs, so running the old dishwasher basically forced everyone down into the theater (not that that's a bad thing, but sometimes you want to be upstairs). The Bosch is pretty much unnoticeable.

Last week my Whirlpool washer died. I did a quick scan of the Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist and found a used Bosch washer and dryer set for $450. Went and took a look, realized I knew the seller, so I trusted they weren't going to die within a month. Bought the pair for $400. Installed them last night, and they are pretty much every bit as quiet as the dishwasher.

I don't know what Bosch is doing, if they're lining their appliances with double-drywall and green glue, but whatever they're doing is working.

* I don't work for Bosch, I'm just really impressed.

I have some of their tools and they have always been reliable. Never tried their appliances, but what we have has always been super quiet... Samsung dishwasher and GE washer and dryer... no issues with noise to speak of. We have had some loud stuff over the years, but I think most of the better brands are now making them fairly quiet.

Good to hear. I Wonder if they make fridges? My Amana Fridge stop cooling. It lasted 17 years so I can't really complain.. Now, on the lookout for a new fridge.

Very true, it's a far cry from dishwashers of the 90's, but in true nerd fashion I did the research and created a spreadsheet of all the noise levels of the dishwashers. Bosch came out on top. :)

For the washer and dryer I just went with Bosch because I'd been so pleased with the dishwasher. And because they were a good deal.

The other thing I didn't mention is that they're also the most water and electric efficient. Another good thing.

For refrigerator I would recommend Frigidaire and LG. Do not buy Samsung appliances. I do warn you LG are pretty pricey and loud. My current LG refrigerator is huge 31 cu. french doors with bottom freezer. Two things I do not like: 1) door ice dispenser, and 2) the motor is a little loud.

If you open the door for a long period of time lets say 5 min. or more, the ice in the door starts melting. Then once you close the door and the water turns into ice again all of the ice cubes get stuck together. You will have to open the ice dispenser and break the ice. Furthermore, if you have friends over you will run out of ice quickly. I don't recommend having the ice dispenser in the door. We bought it like that thinking it gives more space. I wish we would of bought a 100% refrigerator without a freezer because we ended up buying an upright freezer that is the same size as our refrigerator lol to store meat.

Good details. Thanks. I was doing some research and lot of websites mentioned that LG and Samsung were not good since they are very high tech and as such repair is very difficult and pricey..

I looked at the Kenmore Elite (Sears) and will go to best buy and other places on the weekend to see what is available.

I prefer side by side, which is more convenient but has less space than a bottom or top freezer.

Looking at the below..

  • KitchenAid
  • Whirlpool
  • Frigidaire
  • Kenmore
  • Maytag
  • GE
  • Electrolux
  • Amana
  • Haier
  • Bosch
  • Viking
Too many decisions..

If you don't mind spending the money I would go with a Subzero refrigerator. After all I've gone through, I wish I would of just gone that route. I've had bad experience with Whirlpool / Maytag both are the same company / products.

I don't think I can accommodate the subzero.

There has been a lot of consolidation in the appliance world that is for sure..

The Kenmore refrigerator brand is part of the Sears line of products, although many models are actually manufactured by Whirlpool..

Amana is now part of the Maytag (which itself is now Whirlpool) family

Yeah, it's crazy how many different brands are made by one manufacturer. I think that's why many of these appliances have the same mechanical issues.
