BAYZ Audio Delivers Serious Cool Factor with Its New Counterpoint Loudspeaker​

(April 3, 2019) Time to dip our toes in the warm waters of the ultra-high end with Hungary’s BAYZ Audio. Yesterday, the relatively obscure manufacturer announced the arrival of its all-new Counterpoint Flagship Loudspeaker. Priced at a hefty $97,100, Counterpoint is certainly positioned as a niche speaker meant for those with smart pockets, but that doesn’t mean we can’t hit pause and let our eyes feast on the unique. And, just to note: for those of you lucky enough to be attending AXPONA 2019 (April 12-14, Chicago), you’ll have a chance to hear Counterpoint in Room 674 at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel & Convention Center.

Counterpoint is an omni-directional full-range speaker that utilizes the patented BAYZ Radial Speaker (BRS) radial tweeter design. Developed by Zoltan Bay, BRS is comprised of a cylindrical membrane made from an ultra-light material contained in a carbon fiber enclosure. It’s complemented by dual 9.5” custom woofers capable of performing down to 28Hz.

According to Zoltan: “For the BRS design, I wanted a much a faster impulse response with very low ringing as compared to other loudspeaker offerings. My intention was to develop a loudspeaker with the absolute lowest distortion and idealized pulse capabilities, with perfect frequency response in all directions”.

The speaker’s carbon fiber cabinets are anchored by a solid granite base. With a sensitivity of 90dB, the it's fairly easy to drive. BAYZ recommends an amp capable of delivering a minimum of 50 watts.
