(June 4, 2025) Skullcandy is bringing back a blast from the past, reviving its classic Aviator headphone line with the release of the Aviator 900 ANC, its most premium offering to date. Originally launched in 2010, the Aviator arrived with distinctive retro styling and a design promising high-quality audio performance. Now, Skullcandy is building on that legacy, pairing vintage-inspired aesthetics with modern tech enhancements.
Central to the Aviator 900 ANC's audio performance is its integration of THX Spatial Audio with Head Tracking, offering an immersive soundstage that adapts to subtle head movements. According to Tuyen Pham, CEO of THX Ltd., this collaboration is significant: "THX Spatial Audio with head tracking on the new Aviator is a historic moment for both companies. This collaboration merges THX’s long-standing mission to bring the best audio technology to consumers of entertainment with the popularity of the Skullcandy brand."
The headphones are also equipped with adaptive 6-microphone active noise canceling, designed to keep distractions at bay, and Personal Sound by Mimi, which customizes audio playback based on the user's individual hearing profile. Battery life is impressive, offering over 60 hours of playback with ANC off and up to 50 hours with ANC active. Rapid Charge functionality adds a lot of convenience; just a 10-minute charge can deliver up to four hours of listening time.
Physically, the Aviator 900 ANC retains its retro charm, incorporating vintage-inspired materials such as suede accents, polished finishes, and hardware reminiscent of classic aviation equipment. A knurled thumbwheel, joystick controls, and a retro-inspired multifunction LCD display are too fun to ignore. The headphones fold flat and include a cross-body travel bag crafted from durable materials, ensuring they’re ready for travel.
According to Justin Regan, Skullcandy’s VP of Marketing, the Aviator 900 ANC marks a significant moment for Skullcandy: "It's a fearless move for a brand known for doing things differently—and proof that great sound and standout design can live in the same package."
Additional practical features include multipoint Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, Google Fast Pair, customizable button functions, Spotify Tap integration, clear voice smart microphones for calls, and an adjustable Stay-Aware mode. The headphones are also IP-rated for water and sweat resistance.
