It might not make an author big bucks like a plug from Oprah, but some of your friends here might enjoy a good read.

Does anyone read books any more? Your recent reads, or favorites?

Reading Great Expectations. Just finished Treasure Island. Don't know why I never read these when I was younger. Too much Robert A Heinlein, Frank Herbert, Robert E. Howard and Stephen King I suppose.

I enjoy reading and I have lots of books in several bookshelves.

You can't go wrong with the classics. Be sure to read 'Robin Hood" by Henry Gilbert as well as "The Legends of King Arthur and His Knights" by James Knowles.

I just can't into ebooks (electronic format).. I would much rather have a book in my hand where I can flip the pages, etc. (I am old fashioned). :)

I've been strictly ebook for several years now and can't imagine going back. :)

Some standouts in the last year or so:

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
The Fireman by Joe Hill
The Revenant by Michael Punke
Night of the Grizzlies by Jack Olsen
Dark Places by Gillian Flynn
Sick Bastards by Matt Shaw
The Bill Hodges Trilogy by Stephen King

Kind of want to re-visit The Dark Tower series before I see the film (on blu...I don't go to theaters anymore), but I kind of remember it as being kind of hard to get through at times. I was definitely not as big of a fan as some.

Alan, are you using kindle?

Thanks. I don't have any e-readers.. I may get one during the xmas holidays but have to do research first as to which is best for reading.. :)
Don't get me wrong, I am not a 100% convert to e-readers, I just know that more content is available online than getting a book in the hand one at a time.

Kindle is the way to go. If you read with a reading light or outdoors most of the time, you can get away with the basic 6" that lacks any lighting. It goes for $79, but around Black Friday it will probably be closer to $50. ;)

Here's a great forum for all things Kindle:

Thanks buddy.. I will take a look. I am thinking black Friday and/or during the holiday period, prices will come down..
