(August 10, 2025) When Goer Dynamics acquired Auro-3D, the company promised bold new directions for the format, pointing to its Auro-CX codec as a way to make high-resolution immersive audio scalable for streaming and broadcast. That announcement caught the attention of enthusiasts, many of whom prize Auro’s natural height cues and musical upmixing. While Auro-CX isn't part of the headline today, we are now seeing the first major step in Auro's broader push, and it comes in a package far more accessible than an ultra-high-end processor.
Yamaha’s new flagship soundbars, the SR-X90A for Japan and the True X Surround 90A for international markets, are the world’s first soundbars to include native Auro-3D decoding. The SR-X90A pairs the soundbar with a wireless subwoofer, while the True X Surround 90A brings that same bass capability and adds a pair of wireless surround speakers for a complete immersive audio setup. At the heart of both models is Auro-3D’s Auro-Scene virtualization engine, which is billed to create a transparent, room-filling soundstage with convincing height and depth.
The inclusion of Auro-3D in a soundbar is significant for two reasons. First, it brings a level of immersive realism typically reserved for dedicated AV receivers and processors into a single streamlined enclosure. Second, it provides a broader audience with access to Auro’s hallmark processing, potentially paving the way for wider adoption. In the case of both soundbars, users can tailor listening profiles for movies, music, or dialogue-heavy TV, selecting the degree of 3D immersion to suit the content and their preferences. Auro-3D processing is joined by Yamaha’s suite of sound modes and calibration tools, ensuring that even in challenging living spaces, the system delivers a balanced, impactful presentation.
If Auro-CX ultimately delivers on its promise of scalable, high-quality immersive streaming, Yamaha’s integration here may prove to be a strategic first move, planting the Auro flag in a product category with the reach and ease-of-use to introduce thousands of households to the name and the auditory experience. For now, these soundbars stand as a rare crossover between enthusiast-grade immersive audio and everyday convenience. It's pricey, though... the True X Surround 90 A carries an MSRP that lands just shy of $3,500.
