(April 25, 2024)The Acoustic Transducer Company (ATC) is celebrating 50 years in the industry with a special, limited-edition active stand-mount loudspeaker, the SCM20ASL. Dressed in high-gloss lacquer dark blue, matching the company's own color, and capped by eye-catching finishing features, the SCM20ASL Limited Edition is a looker. From its front baffle wrapped in hand-upholstered royal blue full-grain Napa leather to anodized silver exterior alloy components and a removable grille wrapped in dark blue acoustically transparent cloth, the company left no design element unattended for this limited run of 150 speakers.

The speaker integrates a 2-way active system, previously only available in the company's floor standing ranks, into a smaller 20-litre sealed cabinet. Its driver array comprises a 6” Super Linear mid-bass driver paired with a 1” S-Spec dual-suspension tweeter. ATC has chosen an active, analog 2nd order Linkwitz-Riley crossover configuration, piggybacked by an all-pass filter to manage the phase response through the crossover region. Power is delivered via class A/B MOSFET power amplifiers, capable of delivering 200 Watts and 50 Watts of continuous power to the mid-bass driver and tweeter, respectively.

The SCM20ASL Limited Edition carries a single XLR input located on the rear panel, flanked by user controls for input sensitivity and low-frequency shelf cut/boost. The input sensitivity control allows a listener to adjust the input gain to suit their source/pre-amplifier combination, delivering consistent performance. The low-frequency shelf control tweaks the speaker's bass response to best blend low-end output to specific environments and tastes.

To support the reveal of its latest speaker, a small, limited run of ATC’s new 12” active subwoofer, the C4 Sub Mk2 Limited Edition, has been produced. Limited to 20 units, the sub features a matching gloss blue cabinet, leather-upholstered baffle, and silver anodized amp hardware.

The SCM20ASL Limited Edition and matching C4 Sub Mk2 Limited Edition are available to order now. Buyers can expect to pay $13,999 per pair for the SCM20ASL Limited Edition and $9,999 for the sub.
