(July 25, 2025) The infrasonic arms race just escalated, dramatically. Germany-based audio specialist Ascendo Immersive Audio has revealed two jaw-dropping additions to its lineup of ultra-low-frequency subwoofers. More than just hard-hitting subs, the massive new 64-inch and 100-inch passive sealed subwoofer designs are meant for home theater and music enthusiasts seeking true subterranean bass.

Taking over from Ascendo’s previous 50-inch and 80-inch units, which already stand as abnormally large works of mechanized art, the THE64 and THE100 subs incorporate extensive upgrades aimed at deeper bass extension, more precise control, and greater output capability. Geoffrey Heinzel, Co-Managing Partner at Ascendo, emphasizes their commitment to innovation, noting that these new offerings represent the absolute cutting edge in infrasonic performance.

“We are proud to be the leader in infrasonic bass. Our continuous innovation in this category translates to an extremely high-performance, emotionally connected experience that enriches state-of-the-art home theaters and music reproduction systems with bass you can feel,” says Geoffrey Heinzel, Co-Managing Partner of ASCENDO. “These two new subwoofers are the largest in the world for home cinema, and are incredibly powerful, efficient, and fast.”

Significant design enhancements include a thoroughly upgraded suspension system featuring quad spiders optimized for extreme linear and nonlinear excursions. These redesigned components use advanced materials that improve compliance and dramatically reduce mechanical noise, particularly during high-output playback. Further refinements have lowered driver resonance and improved linear motion, enabling deeper, cleaner bass reproduction that reaches well into the infrasonic range. Ascendo says these upgrades contribute to significantly lower f3 points, which are vital for capturing the deep rumble of movie soundtracks and delivering the full-body impact of immersive musical recordings.

The cabinetry hasn’t been overlooked either. Ascendo introduced custom-designed, single-piece surrounds that allow for even greater linear cone travel. Additionally, improved internal bracing and specially tuned multi-density damping materials reduce internal resonance, lowering the enclosure’s Q factor and resulting in an exceptionally clean impulse response and lower group delay.

Of course, with something this large, field serviceability becomes a key consideration. To address this, Ascendo has developed a new field-replaceable re-cone kit that allows for quicker and more efficient on-site servicing. Given the sheer size and weight of the THE64 and THE100, which are not easily moved once installed, the ability to perform repairs without relocation is a significant advantage. This approach eliminates the logistical headaches of transporting such massive hardware, making ongoing maintenance far more practical.

THE64 and THE100 appear poised to rock the industry, promising bass performance that’s not only deeper and more controlled but genuinely unprecedented in the residential market. In a world where go big or go home reigns, Ascendo has clearly chosen its path, and home is disappearing fast in the rearview.
