So I was wandering around YouTube yesterday and found this video on 2 channel setup that also has to do with home theater front speaker placement. I was thinking on giving it a try one of these days. Let me know your thoughts!

I haven't seen that before. I dropped off at the 10 minute mark though because he was telling more story's than giving any insight.

It's good info after the story time. If you would have watched 3 more min he gits into detail on the setup.

Thanks for the posting this link... I made it to about the 40 min mark... need to get some other stuff done, but it's interesting. Speakers closer together = warmer sound. Crisper/clearer sound = further apart.

huh. .

Interesting. I'm inclined to watch and try.

I should probably watch the video before commenting, but I feel adventurous today!
Color me skeptical based on what I've read here so far. I'd be more receptive if toe-in were the variable rather than separation. Speakers toed-in directly at LP = crisp/clear; speakers aimed straight ahead = warmer/duller.

I also believe in the toe-in principal.
I used this guide for my front stage.

Get about 7-8 different speakers in the same room and you'll quickly learn it all depends on the speaker. Some of them might share similar characteristics when placed similar and toe-in is similar, but they will all likely react different with toe-in or not. I don't buy in to any set rule of thumb for all speakers. There are too many different designs that require a certain type of setup. Moving them closer together or farther apart will create a different sound in different ways for different speakers. Some may react similarly, some will not. I always suggest starting with the Cardas Room Setup Guide and move them from there.

There is some good info there, but we have taken a little different approach. Rather than focusing on getting linear response through the bass with placement, we opt for the ideal placement in terms of image presentation. There are so many room variables that affect bass response that can be dealt with by using subs or EQ that this variable does not need to confound the rest of placement.

His assertion that the distance between speakers affects warmth is also a bit misleading. What he is effecting is a change in the listener relative to the off axis response of the speaker, and toe in allows one to tweak this more carefully as well. The complex interplay of distance between the speakers and toe angle is where most of the balance between response and imaging is accomplished.
