A True Loss – Perlisten's CEO, Dan Roemer, Had a Profound Impact on Audio and Beyond

(January 7, 2025) Just ten short years ago, Perlisten Audio was born. Co-founded by CEO Dan Roemer and Lars Johansen, the company arrived with confidence. If you didn't know better, you'd assumed it existed for decades, and for good reason. Its creators possess a passion for audio backed by serious knowledge and skills. The results have spoken for themselves; Perlisten resides among the industry's most respected and technically accurate brands. Its speakers and subwoofers are sensational.

With more than 25 years of industry experience, Perlisten's Dan Roemer cut his teeth by applying new methods for measuring and modeling acoustical and mechanical systems for brands like NHT, Acoustic Research, and Advent. He eventually became Head of R&D for MITek Corporation. In recent years, he consulted for brands involved in high-end and car audio, designed headphone amplifiers for recognized manufacturers, and worked in both aerospace and automotive OEM consulting.

Several years ago, Dan was diagnosed with cancer. He passed away at his home this past December on the 26th.

According to his obituary, "Alongside all the treatments, he embarked on a spiritual journey focusing on healing both his mind and body. He had many hands helping him immensely through this experience. Dan was completely transformed after diagnosis; as his body grew weaker, his spirit only grew stronger."

The AV community will remember Dan for his contributions and creations, including the gift of Perlisten. It is said that Perlisten embodied him, "built on partnership, friendship, and delivering a superior listening experience." From my interactions and relationships with his team, those characteristics are front and center, and joyfully obvious.

Of course, Dan was much more than a fan of audio. He was a steadfast friend, a hockey player and coach, a father, and a husband. He married his high school sweetheart and was Dad to two daughters and a son.

This passage from his obituary speaks volumes: "He was the dad that had the answer to everything, whether it was sports, school, or just life. He was so levelheaded and always supported my siblings and me in every single endeavor of ours," remembers Emma. “Dad had an impossibly kind heart that taught me the power of kindness. He could simplify life and soften even the darkest moments with humor, while still carrying a depth that made our connection beautiful. His light will stay with me forever,” remembers Grace. “He was a dedicated coach and even more a dedicated father. He took everything extremely emotionally and analytically. He was a much deeper person than he showed on the surface,” remembers Joe.

May Dan rest in peace.

So sad to learn this news. Met and spoke with him online and at a few shows, and seemed like a really good guy. Sympathies to his family and partners.

Me too... he set quite a tone for Perlisten. But, most importantly, it sounds like he was a genuine and good-hearted person. The world needs people like that. I certainly feel for his family, friends, and the Perlisten family.
