THE FINAL FRONTIER - THE SCHIIT MAGNIUS - SUB 500$ BALANCED AMP

THE FINAL FRONTIER - THE SCHIIT MAGNIUS - SUB 500$ BALANCED AMP

Description

...........!!!!! WOW !!!!!........... this finally drives my MONOPRICE M570 cans the way

they were meant to be no more distorsion at the low end sub 30hz at 12:00 on the voluime dail an im not even on the balanced out yet iv still got to get a cable

upgrade for that im just coming of my jds atom amp at 1 watt at high gain an was never sure how much gain boost in db i was getting but i aways fell the need to use

this digital pc eq to eq an back off the volume by -4db weither i was gaming or watching a web vid or
listening to foobar but with this flat out no trim or eq an its great no distorsion at all

an the only diff is an extra 1 watt at 32ohms SE at high gain which is 8plus db not bad at all , an i dont think that its just the 1 extra at 32ohms that gives this

beast the better oomph but so far im very pleased i will update the review two more time for more indepthness

.1 - an when i get my custom balanced xlr headphone cables from either hartaudiocables or audiophileninja

.2 - an when i get my balanced massdrop dac an xlr cables

but for right now im going to bliss out to some solar fields an tool audio goodness

please if the audiophile gods will allow three sins of posting

1. low light level pic quality sucks my moto g power is far better then my 2nd gen g but its still not perfect

2.these looked sharper in ther raw. formate an were 30md each back this site dosent take that so this is 5mb jpeg

3. if you see what looks like whit grit on the gear in the shot almost like dandruff its not its the stucco debris from are bad ceiling in our rental home that flaks on everthing worst then dust an if after 3hours all surfaces have a thin film layer that we have to clean , not such an annoyance on seating or the floor but the pc an av gear uhg!

but when you try to take a clean shot of some gear its more noticable when you get the luck of a big chunk that stands out like dandruff

Thanks for posting this, Dreadknot! I'm a big fan of Schitt's products, too. I own the budget priced Modi DAC for my computer desktop system and for $99 I couldn't be happier : )

Thank you Dreadknot for the good pictures. Noticed that you have a Topping D10 DAC in place, which, is definitely needed here to set up this system correctly. There is a problem with some audio having a poor quality coming through the main speakers (the center has already been replaced), at times it's there and at times it's great so this will help isolate the problem as to whether it's the source of the signal or something within the system. Amazon has one which will be here on Monday so the problem can be further troubleshot.

After reading your post checking for a technical review was in order. Found a very thorough review at Audio Science Review, which may be of some value to you and your readers. You may have read this one already. It is understandable why you would want to get a balanced set of headphone cables after reading the review.

Now upgrade your DAC to real Schiit. :T

I just ordered a custom set of balanced cables from periaptcables

the next step is to get my dac from massdrop the
DROP + GRACE DESIGN STANDARD DAC BALANCED
an then the ART EQ-355 Dual 31-band Graphic Equalizer to put between the dac an amp

one step at a time

No no, now upgrade to a real SCHIIT DAC, a TRUE multibit, not all that S/D . Get the Bifrost or higher. All the rest is a waste of money.
An equalizer is the worst you can do, it brings noise, noise noise and noise.

the Bifrost is way outside my budget an i want an eq that i can tweek by hand to adjust bass treb an mids to my liking an the ART EQ-355 Dual 31-band Graphic Equalizer is a balanced eq with no noise as i used one before in my av setup its clean an let me dail in , the dac an eq an interconnect cables all are less then 500$ which would cover the remain headphone gear i need an want as iv already ordered my set of 4-pin balanced headphone cables
my total budget was 685$ an that bifrost alone would have sucked me dry

i wont have a chuck that big for atleast a year

all other funds are currently slated to other things

plus audiosciencereview.com

put the DROP + GRACE DESIGN STANDARD DAC BALANCED way above the bifrost by a 7db higher sinad for far less cash

I just looked up the Schitt Bitfrost 2. It's pretty cool! I've never seen a DAC that has user upgradable hardware and software via a modular system.
The Schitt DACs don't offer MQA unfolding which I found just slightly disappointing since I'm a Tidal HiFi user. What are your thoughts on MQA vs. other streaming methods for HiRes?

Thanks!

MQA (barf) who needs it? It is a great HOAX nothing more, nothing less. Another try to get you to buy the whole music library again. Just like Hi-Res is.
If Bifrost is too expensive start start with another Schiit DAC lower in price., but please pretty please don't look at numbers when buying a DAC.
Things like 32 bit 384 kHz are just numbers that meaning absolutely nothing. MQA another buzz word gone within a few years. Just like DSD is not relevant at the moment.
99.9% percent of all recorded material is PCM and above 24 bit 96 kHz nothing can be heard, it is only noise. Some say there is phase information. Maybe? But who's got the equipment to reveal that?
Schitt doesn't offer MQA because there is NO prove whatsoever it sounds better or even the same as good PCM. The only demo's I've seen they compared it to 192 kbps MP3 Hahahahahaha.
If you have a Schiit True Multibit DAC with Unison USB you will be astonished how much information there is in a 16 bit 44.1 kHz track that wasn't revealed before.

Unfortunately you're looking at numbers measurements and prices. Number and measurement say ZERO about how things sound.
Price most of the time just as little when the money is not spend on a beautiful casing (which it is most of the time).
This DAC has XLR outpts but isn't truly balanced at all. Just one AKM DAC chip inside. There need to be at least 2 to be a balanced design.

AmirM is only about numbers, not about listening. Most recently Jason Stoddard of Schiit Audio proved to him that it no problem at all to build something that measures perfectly
He build a balanced headphone amp for $ 199,00 that beats all much higher priced headphone amps. Nothing to it he says.
Numbers is just a matter of design. Sound signature however that is an art that can't be measured. But whatever floats your boat stick with it.
Look up Amir's review of the Schiit Magnius headphone amp.
If it's just price buy a Modi.

About higher SINAD. As one audiophile once said: You don't get extra kudos for making it twice as inaudible.

Thanks so much for your insight, Jos. I will definitely dive into the article and video you provided. It's always so interesting how new technologies come out in audio every so many years trying to improve the listening experience when there was nothing really much to improve on to start with! : D

i dont go by measurements numbers alone an i did read Amir's review of the Schiit Magnius headphone amp that was the final sticking point for buying same as why im going for the massdrop balanced dac besides that it fits my budget

i aways read an listen to many reviews of an item on how it sounds an performs before i buy but if i can find some tecknical spec readouts on something like AmirM i find it helpful , but at the end of the day my budget decides

this is one vid review

No problem! MQA stands for Master Quality Authenticated. It is an audio codec that uses compression of the file for smaller file sizes but upon the "unfolding" it is supposed to give back the full hi-res file if you have the required hardware. They (MQA) say the results are audibly lossless but it does use a lossy method for compression. Folding and unfolding is their way of compression and decoding.

A very good article of the MQA process from 'Audiophilereview': https://audiophilereview.com/cd-dac-digital/mqa-the-facts-versus-the-fiction.html

Where is the "review" in this clip that makes you seasick. Holy Schiit can't that guy buy a stabilizer. Obviously money is not an object.

sometimes he does that but not always or atleast not as bad

but between this an reviews on headfi.org
