From the Ground Up: AudioControl’s Hyperion Series Breaks New Ground and We've Got the Juicy Details!

(September 29, 2025) AudioControl made a significant splash at CEDIA 2025, pulling the curtain back on its all-new Hyperion Series of AVRs, processors, and amplifiers. Under the leadership of its new parent company, AVPro, AudioControl’s Hyperion lineup represents a complete ground-up rebuild of the brand’s approach to home theater.

To help explain what makes these new Hyperion products unique, we talked with Nik Faraday and Kory Dunn, two of the designers directly responsible for shaping the new products. During our conversation, they delved deep into the details, revealing numerous tidbits and points of interest, including exciting news about Dirac Live Active Room Treatment (ART) and several industry firsts.

On the hardware front, the AVR model delivers 11 powered channels with 16-channel decoding, while the matching processor provides 16 balanced outputs that can be matrixed as needed—yes, even for running eight subwoofers if your system calls for it. Amplifiers in the line, now dubbed Tetra, Penta, and Hepta, feature both analog and Dante inputs, bridging the worlds of professional and enthusiast installations.

We captured the full interview so you can hear directly from the team behind Hyperion. Click here to watch the video interview.

I haven’t seen much mention of the DPR-16. The only stuff I’ve seen makes it sound like it’s not really intended to be digital only version of the APR-16, but I can dream, right?

Also, was there any mention of expansion capabilities to add more channels? 19 ch seems like it should be the minimum these days for high end receivers and processors.

I hope they are relatively stable and robust, more like an appliance less like a modern day app (“Do the issues make it crash? No? Then ship it!” 😜)

Pretty sure it’s digital only. It’s a 1RU chassis … so it’s conveniently small! Or maybe I should say thin!

I’m also curious to see how stable they are. Keep in mind, they had static samples at CEDIA last year… and were dropping hints that it might become available early in 2025.

I think the fact that they let it bake until now (technically Q4) is a good sign. I’m predicting good things… AVPro doesn’t mess around with quality and stability when it comes to their products. Let’s hope that ethos rubs off on AudioControl branded products!

For the DPR, they seem to be positioning is not as much as a digital only version of the APR but instead a 16 ch distributed audio processor with surround processing. “Brings advanced LAN concepts to multizone home theater systems.” That said, the screenshot on the site shows all the audio formats and 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos status. Just noticed the right hand corner says “Home Theater Digital Processor”. IF the $4k MSRP is right, that could be a great option.

Definitely could be... if the all-digital format is right for your application.

Just realized the link to the video is broken. Here's the correct link:

I got to see the APR-16 in person yesterday at the CEDIA Tech and Business Summit in Houston and speak with some folks from AVPro about it.

For someone building a wholly new system, I think the DPR-16 could be a good option, but it does lack the flexibility the CI has since it doesn’t have any analog out for active subs. Maybe we’ll see active subs go to Dante in the future. 😁

The whole line up is intriguing. I do wish they had 20-24 ch specifically for 9.x.4/6 setups to be able to have at least 4 subs managed from 1 device.

They did mention that the pre sales are going great.

I hope to see a review from someone soon.

Derek - do you have experience deploying Dante?

Just curious what kind of external modules exist for someone to convert digital sub outs to analog

Thought I had replied...🤦‍♂️

I have not had the opportunity to work with Dante yet. But look forward to learning more about it and doing so.

As for modules, I know of 2 options. Dante's AVIO and Zenty's ZT-DA2DX have output to XLR.
