Did it help any mounting your diffusion panels in a box with holes on the sides? I had thought of mounting mine in front of bass traps is why I am asking.

Inside their wooden boxes is 75mm foam, no diffusers, although the front pattern might help diffuse sound (it's a waveform of rage against the machine, not a mathematical binary amplitude diffusor sequence).

When I first treated the room I thought that I wanted to absorb less above 5-8khz because I've always found too much HF damping in my previous rooms. However the previous rooms were all carpeted and this is my first hard flooring room. At first I had 10mm holes in the panels and it did exactly what I wanted; less absorption above ~5khz, but I found with the hard floor I really wanted full bandwidth absorption, so I re cut the panel fronts to have the wide slots for as much open area as possible, still looking interesting.

FYI the openings on the sides account for about 15% more surface area.

I later added the white melamine foam for slightly further Mid and HF absorption.

You might also not have noticed the broadband 'bass traps' behind the speakers across the corners of the fire place.

Also under the floor is a 4ft space. I filled it with copious amounts of rock wool before installing the wooden flooring. I don't know how much bass actually gets through there and absorbed...

Thanks, I am in a similar situation with concrete walls, ceiling, and stone floors.

I have wooden and plaster ceiling and floor. But brick walls on all sides. I have DSP for the bass, mostly a mode around 48hz. But bass traps really help above 100hz. Kind of wish I had space for more. I plan to build cardioid speakers AT SOME POINT... maybe 2020???

Excellent and impressive workmanship! Very nice indeed. And you’re right of course. It’s forever a work in progress that’s never complete. Always one more idea for improvement to try.

Very nice. I see cats rule the roost also :)

I bet they make great diff-sorbers too if you can get them to sit still for a bit. I use a dog just for that reason.

Great listening space and setup! I especially like the Cyrus gear...I don't see that too often. Most importantly, what style beer are you pouring there?

Thanks for the kind comments!

The Cyrus gear is quite old, but it was top of the range when I first got an interst in hi-fi early 90's. Always wanted it since that 'wow' moment at a shop leaving me forever chasing the rainbow.

Its actually very good design, DAD7 as a transport uses that Phillips swing-arm mech (hope it never breaks!) and the pre uses differential circuitry all the way with analog pots that seek a specific resistance with motors and a feedback loop. Power is just general good early Cyrus.

Regarding wood floor, I chose it specifically because I've always had carpeted rooms and above ~8khz the power response falls off very rapidly, combined with additional damping for the midsection and the top lacks air.

Beer, I think was kind of an imperial IPA, a mix of bits I had; Pale malt, Caramalt, liquid malt extract. Hops mainly Challenger (English variety).
