Feeding the DAC externally is what I'm doing at the moment. For some frequency response measurments though, I like to use the stepped sine method instead of the usual sweep or noise. And for that, REW must control both DAC and ADC.

I can|t find the option to export as impulse response. The only options I see are "export filter settings as text", "save filter coefficients to file", and "save this filter set".
