    Where Does Clarity Come From?

Original poster here... Thanks for the responses. They make sense to me, especially the comments about the proximity of car speakers vs. room speakers. Also, the comments about small-space car reflections vs. a large room with hard walls and ceiling. I need to study those curves. For those...

    Where Does Clarity Come From?

I listen to music on three systems -- one car with the optional Harman Kardon system, another car with a Bowers and Wilkins system, and my modest Yamaha/ Klipsch bookshelf system. My favorite is the B&W system, but I'm not sure what makes it better, except that everything seems cleaner and...

Not All Pink Noise is the Same!

Indeed, there is a difference in the RTA of Correlated vs. Uncorrelated pink noise. Red is Correlated Green is Uncorrelated In most cases, the uncorrelated response is lower, so I guess there is some cancelation happening between the two channels.

Not All Pink Noise is the Same!

The Sheffield pink noise is uncorrelated. Does REW generate correlated or uncorrelated noise?

Not All Pink Noise is the Same!

I did a little experiment that y'all might find interesting... Background I have a modest Yamaha/Klipsch 5.1 HT system that I've been tuning with REW. I used its generator to play random pink noise and did my best to match a house curve. My room is carpeted, but not otherwise treated. I have...

    Acoustic Descriptors: What's Good?

My HT area is on one side of a large (18x38) finished basement. It is not "treated" per se but has wall-to-wall carpet and lots of fabric-upholstered furniture. REW tells me that my RT60 is .416s, which, as far as I can tell, is not bad for a room this size. Here are the rest of the...

Help, please. Cannot Generate RT60 (or other) Plots

I have a number of recorded measurements and really want to start exploring things like RT60, Filtered IR, etc. but they don't seem to be available. I can see the SPL and WQ plots, but when I click the RT60 Delay tab for example, the plots are bank and the Generate button is grayed out. Am I...

    House Curve: Car vs. Home

That makes sense to me regarding the need for the speakers to PRODUCE more bass because much gets lost, but the measurements shown are what was RECEIVED by the microphone. In other words, what wasn't lost.

    House Curve: Car vs. Home

The Volvo has the B&O system. I don't have a lot of experience with other systems, but it sounds pretty good to me. The curve was from a preset equalizer curve labeled "Dynamic". In fact, it made my HT system sound bad by comparison. That's what prompted me to acquire REW/UMIK. Now...

    House Curve: Car vs. Home

Aspiring audiophile here. Just starting up the learning curve. I recently acquired REW and UMIK and have been baselining all my gear. I have two cars with optional audio systems -- one is Harman Kardon and the other is Bang & Olufsen. My HT system is a modest Yamaha/Klipsch 5.1 bookshelf...

How to Connect REW to a USB Input?

Never mind! Answered my own question. It turns out my older car only reads the 16-bit versions of the noise files.

How to Connect REW to a USB Input?

Still struggling to use REW in my 2020 Volvo. The car's owner's manual says that it supports WAV files from USB, but I get "format not supported" errors. The file is there on the USB and it plays in my other car, but not the Volvo. Is there an alternative way to format or save the...

How to Connect REW to a USB Input?

Hi, folks. First post and first time REW user. Well, I haven't actually been able to use it at all. Please help. As I understand it, the normal way to connect the REW-equipped laptop to the audio system is to connect the laptop's 3.5mm audio jack to the Aux Input. Unfortunately, my car...
