Just a final update. I've decided that placing bookshelves on the right wall is as far as I can go to try and deal with the right wall reflections. Hopefully it will both diffuse and absorb from that surface. Other than that I really can't do much more to my living room without making it look...
So it is called ceiling, even when slanted! Good to know. I have decided against a cloud because this is my living room. I have thought long and hard about it though. I was thinking perhaps some sort of curtain arrangement might work. but I doubt it will do enough in the mids.
Cheers. I appreciate all the input. The bass is well controlled, in terms of ringing, here now due to all the dampening I have put in. I also have full control of the crossovers and have turned the subs almost off. You are spot on regarding bass. The lower corners of the room focus a lot of...
@AJ Soundfield. Thank you for the information on the EQed speakers. DRC has definitely improved my system. Would you expect to be able to impove the sound beyond what DRC has given me in my living room, or would you consider the room too unsuitable?
I'm enjoying this thread, I want to learn...
I hear you. I don't know, I just wanted better sound and thought perhaps after 20 years of "development" the Focal were better. I also thought the same amount would get me more for the money today.
I Would love to try a pair of ESL, but I checked and they are too tall. They will not fit under...
Sorry for the delay. I thought perhaps a dispersion map would be fun to have. I'm not really willing to alter my room much more than I have, but I thought perphaps I might get some new ideas.
In your experience, do speakers retain their "flavour" once calibrated, or is this an assumption on your part that they should? I'm asking to learn. Others find that DRC may dull the sound. Is this the reason it masks the traits of the speakers?
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I find what you say interesting because my experience is the opposite. I was aware of the resonnanse issue, and I've seen the room response measurments from the fronts change when moving the sub around, so I know the sound from the playing...
My new KEF LS50 just arrived at the post office. I thought their co-axial driver would perhaps let me move closer into a more near-field situation. This would create more distance to rear wall leaning over me. Then I realized they probably spread the sound even more than my DM604s.
Perhaps I...
Interesting information from both AJ and bvocal.
So much to learn... The book will be on my wishlist for christmas. If I only hadn't had so many other hobbies and chores :) I thought I wass too involved, I guess that's why some can make a living out of being consultants.
I agree. For 99% of rooms this is true Unfortunately not in mine, I will have to rely on dampening since due to the many 45 degree angles most reflections end up in the floor, or they get bounced to the opposite wall, creating havoc. Se drawing above.
