I've been playing this for about a year now. Between framed., worldle and connections, that's how I get my brain started every morning to prepare for the day.
Was literally just texting with the singer of my band about the Beatles, and how Wings was my gateway to work backwards into the Beatles. My only Beatles exposure as a kid was the really early stuff my mom liked. College exposed me to Wings and I worked backwards from there.
Well, yeah. I haven't paid much attention to the disc player market in recent years, so was hoping there was something basic in the budget range. Seems backwards you can't get a basic transport for less than you'd pay for all the high-falutin' processing, but here we are.
Thanks everyone for the feedback.
Basically I'm looking for a transport. I'd love something with a source direct mode like the oppo players have/had, to let my Lumagen handle all the heavy lifting in terms of scaling. The Panasonics don't output anything but 4K, and they upsample everything to...
I'm 99% Kaleidescape, but I have a handful of titles that aren't available there, and my PLEX server has been downsized and only using AppleTV for playback, so not getting full Atmos or DTS through there.
I do like the fit and finish of the Panasonic player as well, but have been reading that...
I can't explain my brain. If I could get any recommendations for a budget player that hadn't already been ruled out, I would, but I haven't yet. The Reavon checks all the boxes except budget, and it even has a solid Home Assistant integration already out there.
I'm now curious about the Reavon players, they have a source direct mode like the OPPO players, and a much classier front panel. I may have to hit up @Robert Zohn in the coming weeks...
Interesting. I think this player is hideously ugly. Instead of the classy, understated quality look, they went with the "HEY LOOK AT ME" aesthetic. Like buying a nice Audi and covering it with stickers and a fluorescent green gas cap door.
The movie posters in the photos from my last theater were on a jersey type cotton material. Very stretchy but very acoustically transparent. You can see in one of them the scrap linacoustic I filled them with poking against the material.
The current pair, which are the art in the first image...
Hey everyone. My old UHD disc player died recently. I'm 99% Kaleidescape, but would like to have a disc player for the handful of titles I do have. I have PLEX for a lot of it, but only an AppleTV as a PLEX client so am not getting Atmos or DTS through there...
Long story short, I'd like a UHD...
I was relieved to see that it was, in fact, a movie, and not a new series on some random streaming service that I won't subscribe to.
I'm in. Day 1. This looks like it could be very good.
It's definitely not inexpensive, that's for sure. But man...imagine a PLEX setup with a disc sherpa who obtained all the physical media, ripped them all for you, dealt with system maintenance, library management, disc storage, and could do it all in 10 minutes. That's Kaleidescape.
