Video Diary: StormAudio ISR Fusion 20

I spent a good chunk last weekend taking all new measurements and tweaking target curves for Dirac Live Active Room Treatment (ART) as well as Dirac Live Bass Control. So impressed with how good I have been able to get my room sounding even without deep knowledge of Dirac. ART is the real deal...

Video Diary: StormAudio ISR Fusion 20

Thank you, but “end game” doesn’t exist. 😉 I had a dust blob on the NZ700 but JVC swapped it out quickly and painlessly, Kris Deering is coming out Friday to calibrate the new unit. The Storm is a trial run, I’m going g to have it in to evaluate for a few months and then I think I’ll be...

Video Diary: StormAudio ISR Fusion 20

I've been spending a lot of time getting comfortable with the ins & outs of the ISR Fusion and playing with various calibrations and filters. I have some time before my new Next Level Acoustics subs arrive, at which point I'll have StormAudio do a remote calibration of the unit for my room. The...

JVC Shrinks Native 4K: NZ500 and NZ700 Projectors Deliver High-End Performance in a Smaller Footprint

I went with the NZ700, and Kris Deering brought another client’s NZ800 along when he came to calibrate it to do some comparison measurements. I’ve actually had the 700 replaced because it had a dust blob in the optical path. The replacement is an even better sample in terms of panel alignment...

Video Diary: StormAudio ISR Fusion 20

I have the StormAudio ISR Fusion 20 in-house for the next several months. I am still in the process of getting it tweaked out. I'm taking the deep dive on this one. I'm spending some time with setup and calibration on my own, getting initial impressions on the user experience and sound quality...

You can shrink that when you're done editing and have exported, get the FCPx project file down to a small file that references the original footage but doesn't contain a bunch of render and proxy files.

I don’t save everything but try to maintain an archive. Short film projects I save everything. Concert films I save everything. Product reviews I save the b-roll. I’m also shooting in Blackmagic Raw at 6K so the files are relatively massive.

Don't even get me started on hard drives. A live look at my desk's current situation, I have about 110TB here sitting on my desk, trying to choose a NAS with 10Gbps connection so I can get rid of all of this and put it in a closet and still be able to edit off of it without moving stuff around.

Real-World Review: The Sofabaton X1S Smart Remote

I've never liked Harmony remotes. Never had a lot of success programming them. It always ended with me emailing support, them working some invisible voodoo in my activities, and then it magically worked even though I saw no change in what was happening. I like the idea of Harmony remotes, but I...

Real-World Review: The Sofabaton X1S Smart Remote

Not exactly. I said the Harmony has the largest, most complete database of devices ready to add without having to learn a remote or track down codes to import. Programming sequences and macros is actually easier on my Unfolded Circle remote, it just takes more effort to get all your devices...

What's your favorite Val Kilmer film?

From what I understand, he sang all the performances live, yes. But in post-production they split. Wide shots were the original Jim Morrison vocal, closeups were Val's vocal. Which is even more impressive, if you ask me, that they could seamlessly cut between the two without it being obvious. I...
