    Umik-1 for car audio

I use the umik1 and rew for car audio tuning with my helix DSP. I dont use sweeps at all. I use pink noise to measure the frequency response and then tune using the DSP. Here is a link to a vid i made on setting up the mic.... also look up pssound channel on youtube for car audio tuning stuff

Why does the gain change from day to day with REW??

Yes, very strange. Might try a new cable see if that helps Hahaha Yes same MMM.... No not bolted to the subframe

Why does the gain change from day to day with REW??

No, not played directly from REW. Used REW pink noise generator to create a WAV file and copied that to the digital player and I play the track from there. Only using periodic full range pn. Not sweeps or tones

Why does the gain change from day to day with REW??

OS= Win 10 Hardware = Laptop, umik1 (USB connection to laptop), HiFi walker digital player (blue tooth streaming period PN track to Helix V8 DSP) Volume on digital player set to 90, Volume on Helix commander set to -20db. Have been using the same hardware for months now. Drivers? Do...

Why does the gain change from day to day with REW??

Todays newbie question I am measuring the frequency response and EQing the speakers in my car Have been doing this for weeks but recently the measurement levels (SPL) from one day to the next seem to rise and fall at random When taking 20 or 30 measurements on any one day the levels are stable...

does it matter if RTA is set to SPL or dBFS when measuring frequency response?

Sorry for another newbie question I am using the RTA function in REW to measure the frequency response of the speakers in my car I have always had the RTA graph set to SPL Someone suggested the RTA graph should be set to dB more specifically dBFS Which is correct? Does it really matter and if so...

How do you control the rate of sampling/averaging when measuring frequency response

Yes I can confirm turning down the overlap to 50% did the trick.... thanks John

How do you control the rate of sampling/averaging when measuring frequency response

Understood, thanks so much John, Ill think it might be the overlap, ill play with the sample rate and overlap to see if that makes a difference. Thanks again :)

How do you control the rate of sampling/averaging when measuring frequency response

I am sure there is a simple answer to this, but I have been measuring the frequency response of my speakers using REWs RTA function For as long as I have been using REW, I would over about 30 seconds of measurement get an average of 50-60 Today over 30 seconds of measurement I am getting 200-220...

    House Curve question

Hi folks Am trying to tune my car audio system using REW Am a bit stumped here with which house curve I should be matching for a LR4 crossover for my 3" mid with a 300 to 4000 hz bandpass I have been using, Jazzis tuning companion for REW to generate a set of Half Whit housecurves with LR4...

    Much respect - John Mulcahy

I am just starting out using REW for tuning my car audio system. Simply amazed at what this software can do. The help menu and articles are just as amazing. I have learned more by reading them, then I have in the past 6 months of trawling the internet. As a community we are so lucky to...

    Sweep vs pink noise

pink noise only provides a RTA. Sweeps provide RTA and a range of other useful data like IR etc
