What got you into home theater… what ignited your urge to want a home theater?

About 40 years ago. I made friends with some clerks at our local hi-end shop. They introduced me to Thiel, even though there was no way I could afford them. I got hooked to good sound. They also had a movie room, with the WOW! THX reel playing all the time. I must have seen it over 50 times...

Is Dirac the frog who aspired to become as big as the ox?

The MOTU has much better DAC and hence a better D/A than the Focusrite. MOTU drivers are also very stable, and there's updates when new OS comes out pretty quickly. Lots of home movie setups went with MOTU, you also see a unit at an audio fest sometimes. I have the MOTU M4 for L/R channels +...

Is Dirac the frog who aspired to become as big as the ox?

I wouldn't go cheaper than Focusrite. That's the bottom of what is "good enough". Better is MOTU, best would range with RME. A PC (or Mac mini) is very easy to set up, including apps like JRiver, that does music and video, including pretty much all the codecs. JRiver is very nice to use for...

How often do you upgrade your TV?

Easy! I don't have a TV. :) No cable subscription, some streaming here and there, and an extensive collection of movies and tv shows amassed through the years. When I want to watch something, I fire up the projector and lower the screen. The rest of the time, I have a good sound system and I...

    All time favorite Movie Thread

Wind - 1992 Has it all, nice boats, nice girls, nice guys, and an amazing soundtrack by Basil Poledouris. Always return to it when I need my spirit lifted up. It's not the most faithful to the rules of boat racing, but it is fun!

Where were you 10 years ago?

In my case, my situation got reversed. I had a big living room set up for movies (5.2 + projector) and music. Huge comfy couch, it was really nice. Electronics were from NuPrime, their AVR and their 8-channel amp. I had a BluRay player, but most of my music was on my Mac mini as a player. PSB...

Where were you 10 years ago?

Are those sound absorption panels with the Enterprise printed on the cloth? Ooooohhhh... I'm so jealous of the size of the room, and those panels! :) Looks amazing!

    Favourite music genre

I like a wide variety of music, from Trance to Classical. For me, the music has to have dynamic range, and surprise me with something different. For example, Bubbles by Yosi Horikawa, and his ping pong and basket balls. A beat on full loudness the whole way, that's the real turn off.

Naim Unveils Its Uniti Nova PE Streamer at ISE 2024 – An Elite Streamer with Muscle!

ah, hmmm... $10,000 for a streamer and class D amp? No mention of the DAC inside? Well, at least it has a party mode. That must be worth something.

Two Different Sound Cards and 2 Different Results

of course, different A/D D/A chips and what not inside will have some impact, that's where calibration files are supposed to come in and smooth out the rough edges of a particular setup, to match things up across different products. So, the calibration files are the culprit. Or in this case, the...

Two Different Sound Cards and 2 Different Results

so it seems there's some discrepancies within the calibration files.

Two Different Sound Cards and 2 Different Results

I agree that we need more info. Need to know the routing used as well. Was each sound card used for output to amp, and input via mic, or were the sound cards used for input only and output via another step? Same parameters? etc...

    Apple TV+: Foundation

They got season 2???? Really? Made it to episode 3 and threw my remote at the screen. So, does that mean that Rings of Power will also get season 2? Why horrible shows (while based on amazing material) get 2 seasons, and amazing shows get canceled. One word..... Firefly.

    Yamaha RX Z9 help

If the new speaker have higher sensitivity, then yes, they would be more prone to interference. The idea of the chip being faulty doesn't appeal to me, because if it was indeed the DAC, then the amplification stage would pick it up and amplify it, since it is downstream from the DAC. Have your...
