Onkyo, Pioneer Elite, and Integra Deep Dive: A Fresh Look at the Brands’ Latest AV Receivers

Interesting. If it was the other way around ("first look" pictures with divider and actual product photos with the divider), I would suspect they updated the captions to more clearly distinguish the groups of inputs, but I've no idea why it went this way.

Sound United Gets... Acquired? Yup, Industry Giant Enters Agreement with Masimo Corp

Well, I'm not a fan of any of the brands of Sound United, but there are three possible scenarios: 1. The new ownership will take advantage of the logistics and distribution channels, but will leave Sound United brands alone. This is probably the most likely deal, at least at first, but it will...

Onkyo, Pioneer Elite, and Integra Deep Dive: A Fresh Look at the Brands’ Latest AV Receivers

I know. It's either "cheap hi-fi component system" vibe or "ultra high end" with nothing in between, and, being realistic, Onkyo probably can't hope to change that opinion, even though it would be incredibly useful. A multipin output on a 17* channel (13.4) preprocessor could carry all channels...

Onkyo, Pioneer Elite, and Integra Deep Dive: A Fresh Look at the Brands’ Latest AV Receivers

I really hope they don't go this route but instead offer something different, like offer a preprocessor priced comparably to RZ70, but also offer a lineup of dedicated amplifiers (like large stereo, small stereo, 5/7-channel and 11-channel) and make their margins through those. They could even...

Onkyo, Pioneer Elite, and Integra Deep Dive: A Fresh Look at the Brands’ Latest AV Receivers

An AV preprocessor might indicate* that it will share the architecture with TX-RZ70 and TX-RZ90 (and Pioneer LX705 and LX905 and respective Integra models), but being a more niche product, having the associated halo status and due to the need of including balanced outputs (so it will have...

Onkyo, Pioneer Elite, and Integra Deep Dive: A Fresh Look at the Brands’ Latest AV Receivers

This. Although it might also indicate that Pioneer wants to streamline the branding, if they were serious about it, they would have split the lineup into two brands like Onkyo did with TX-NR and TX-RZ: VSX-xx5 LX-xx5 As for D class amplification, it will be more than enough if the preamplifier...

Onkyo, Pioneer Elite, and Integra Deep Dive: A Fresh Look at the Brands’ Latest AV Receivers

You can omit another DSP run only if your room is perfectly symmetrical. Doors or windows will affect frequency response greatly and you may benefit from doing corrections on both subs taken together, the resulting calibration is not a simple sum of measurements for one sub.

Denon and Marantz Announce 3-in/1-out 8K Switchers for Select AVRs and Processors

Three takeaways: 1. They won't be playing tricks to limit the switcher to Sound United AVRs. 2. They're testing the hell out of those switchers to make sure they don't have a repeat of the bug that plagued their first HDMI 2.1 receivers. 3. Since HDMI 2.1 is so fickle, they're not going to...

Denon and Marantz Announce 3-in/1-out 8K Switchers for Select AVRs and Processors

Well, it would make business sense to limit the compatibility to receivers, but if that were the case, there should have been a firmware upgrade for them to switch the active input using the AVR remote, not a separate one. But if SU simply says the switcher is compatible with listed receivers...

Denon and Marantz Announce 3-in/1-out 8K Switchers for Select AVRs and Processors

Will this work without a compatible Sound United receiver? $199 is a very good price for an HDMI 2.1 video switcher.

Onkyo, Pioneer Elite, and Integra Deep Dive: A Fresh Look at the Brands’ Latest AV Receivers

If they were placeholders, I can't understand why they would say VSX-LX705 and VSX-LX905 on Pioneer's site instead of SC-LX. Also, there are Onkyo equivalent TX-RZ70 and RZ90 models, but only Integra DRX-7.4, no DRX-9.4 yet. This is just harmless fun reading tea leaves, since it could mean...

Onkyo, Pioneer Elite, and Integra Deep Dive: A Fresh Look at the Brands’ Latest AV Receivers

What did Onkyo say about RZ70 and RZ90 and DRX-7.4? I mean, they would say that, wouldn't they? What if you asked them about SC-LX705 and 905?

    Couple of questions regarding subwoofers

I figure it will be 20-80 Hz, so two octaves. I know there is potential for a lot of distortion, but I don't mind that much, I figure with the number of woofers and limited maximum excursion, these issues will be effectively mitigated. Given that with relatively small rooms, one expects the...

    Couple of questions regarding subwoofers

About 80-100 Hz. The room is 4.2×9.2 m with 2.45 m ceiling height.
