Difficulty measuring with Optical interfaces, and or, multiple USB soundcards

So, does that mean there shouldn't be a rate setting conflict that would prevent things working? I have been mostly using the EXCL versions of the Win drivers. Not clear to me if expected behavior is for REW to be able to control and change to a different than Win driver sample rate setting...

Difficulty measuring with Optical interfaces, and or, multiple USB soundcards

Second edit... I played music thru that path, listening to digital extracted at the beginning of the chain and also to the AV rx putting it out over the speakers. There is a good fraction of a second delay in there I can hear.

Difficulty measuring with Optical interfaces, and or, multiple USB soundcards

Well, it seems that unless you explicitly set the input device and output device in Windows to the same sample rate, it won't work. That seems to be my prior problem, though I haven't checked it on all paths I was having problems with. I was under the impression that REW would handle...

Difficulty measuring with Optical interfaces, and or, multiple USB soundcards

Hmmm... wonder if there are "tricks" to trick the input to work, such that they will be providing data when the sweep occurs? But, if this is the source of my problem #2, the XFi card not seeing anything on its input till a sweep starts... why do I always have a successful self loopback...

Difficulty measuring with Optical interfaces, and or, multiple USB soundcards

OK, coming back after a long while to measuring with REW. Very nice to see how much this software has grown over the years! Along with refamiliarizing with the basics... (I formerly did a lot of speaker driver and room measuring) I'm trying a few new things, like measuring optical...

    Non "acoustic" timing reference

This is technically correct, you would need a longer window, and the room would be "too small" to properly exclude. Some have raised the speaker very high in the air, or made a hole in the ground and used the ground as an infinite baffle, with the sky as the rest of the "room". Difficult...

Listening Tests and how length of time spent listening alters perception ex.

Hilarious stories! And, I like Mad Monty's rundown of (only some of!) the "Muses" of Human perception flaws.... As to the above quote, of course both are true, the important thing is that an experimenter needs to always be careful creating their experiments so they fall in to the category...

Floyd Toole: Sound Reproduction: The Acoustics and Psychoacoustics of Loudspeakers and Rooms (AES Presents) 3rd Edition - Discussion Thread

Heh, entirely likely effect in that scenario, of course.. Now, you two, come up with an experimental test method to eliminate or minimize the test subject's "closer attention effect" with two, serially listened to pieces of equipment. Assume there might be an actual effect, besides the...

Question on making cal file and uncorrected phase shift

Its a Creative Labs Soundblaster X-fi HD, a USB card. Was also playing with my motherboard's internal sound card, which was supposed to be pretty good. I'm pretty happy with them, but had been using them with different software. Let me know John, if I'm running astray... sm52, your pics seem...

Question on making cal file and uncorrected phase shift

OK, more learning experience achieved.... I also learned that Win 10 seems to be behaving differently after all these updates. Had to figure out that one has to set the sample/data rate for the sound card in shared mode, despite menus implying that REW wouldn't be affected. Setting to...

Question on making cal file and uncorrected phase shift

Hello John and all... Been quite a while since I used your excellent software, as well as done any acoustical measuring. But, time to get back into things. Something I'm seeing, is after I do the soundcard cal, I do a measure with the same loopback that I used, and I see the phase tilting...
