Movie Roll Call: What have you seen lately?

1st, Hey Todd, it‘s been far too long since I visited this site! 2nd. Just watched “The Mask Of Zorro” on 4K/UHD and man did it look awesome! Many agree that Sony is putting out the best 4k transfers and really do it right. The level of textural detail, colour, black level in this pre-2000 movie...

    2019 Sony 55", 65", 75" & 85" X950G

Hi Robert, I just purchased the 65” X950G and I’m floored by how impressive it’s image quality is! It’s so good, my main decision right now is whether to upgrade and pay the extra $ for the 75” version - about $1K more in Canada. I posted a ‘consumer review’ of my impressions of the X950G here...

    Mission Impossible: Fallout - 4K Blu-ray Review

You my be right. Most reviews I’ve read talk about its picture quality. But I have found a few that describe the same visuals I’m describing. Here is a link to one of them -...

    Mission Impossible: Fallout - 4K Blu-ray Review

So, I have Fallout on 4K Blu Ray. And on my Panasonic UB820 and my JVC LX-UH1, it looks terrible. Every scene, except the IMAX scenes look terrible grainy. I’m not talking light grain...but I mean unwatchable. Clarity is terrible because there is so much grain/noise. But as soon as it scene...

Going Up and Going Down: SVOD is on the Rise while 4K Discs Dive

I guess those of us who like 4K Blu Ray discs need to stock up while we can. It’s incredible to myself, that 480p DVD still accounts for the biggest share of discs...And Samsung and Sony have come out with 8K TV’s while JVC has an 8K Projector...makes one scratch one’s head

    Panasonic DP-UP820/JVC LX-UH1 Screen Shots

Having been mastered (or filmed? Sorry, I’m not an expert) at 4000 nits, ‘Justice League’ is a great movie for HDR viewed on my LX-UH1 paired with Panasonic Reference Quality UB820 UHD Player. Here are some screen shots. I haven’t finished watching the movie...and was enjoying how great it...

    Panasonic DP-UP820/JVC LX-UH1 Screen Shots

Hey Todd, Yes I am rather impressed with the LX-UH1. I realize of course that it’s blacks and contrast can’t match the higher end D-ILA models, one of which I hope to own one day. But nevertheless, it still puts out a very impressive image. Did you see the recent 4K screen shots from Infinity...

    Panasonic DP-UP820/JVC LX-UH1 Screen Shots

Hi Tony, Yeah, there are def some difficulties displaying pics of a projected image. And you are correct, the screen one is viewing the images on can be either a limitation or a revelation. Having said that, for those who may be interested in having some realistic approximation of the image...

    Panasonic DP-UP820/JVC LX-UH1 Screen Shots

I’ve done a few posts on the pairing of the Panasonic UB820 with the JVC LX-UH1. This one will show some new photos which I think really help as a visual aid to capture what I see projected on screen. For instance, the sheer amount of detail I see on screen in the glowing red lines on Thanos’...

    Panasonic DP-UP820/JVC LX-UH1 Screen Shots

Actually I thought that even with the limitations of my IPad Pro’s camera, these pictures were a very good approximation of the projected image. The actual image is superior to the pictures of course...but the photos give a reasonable view.

    Panasonic DP-UP820/JVC LX-UH1 Screen Shots

There is a popular, widespread view that DLP projectors are rather lacking in contrast and great blacks. That may have been true of DLP’s from yesteryear. But I challenge that idea currently. The JVC LX-UH1 is an incredibly capable projector. In my opinion, I think far too much emphasis is...
