    MSO-like EQ optimization

MSO works because all the subs receive the same mono signal source. Not quite the same for stereo or higher multi-channel source! Other processing algorithms such as DIRAC, YPAQ, etc. try to deal with the higher frequencies.

Auro Technologies Files for Bankruptcy, Expects to Bounce Back

Hi Todd, I know you tested the Yamaha RX-A8A, did you try Aura 3D on a stereo TV broadcast? I have just bought an RX-A6A and noticed occasional weird brief phasing effects between front and back with speech a finally tracked it down to Aura 3D being enabled by default deep in the menus...

Active vs Passive Speakers... Do you have a preference?

Do you have electronics skills, or a friend that does? I designed a 12 channel output DSP unit using the ADAU1467. The ADAU1467 will support up to 48 output channels which will all be in sync as driven from the same clock. More details here rather than stray too far away from this subject topic...

    Best Budget DIY Speaker Kit?

I would think so. Can't see the point to torture the main speakers with gazzilion watts of rumble from movie effects! In my case, the system has grown organically and is still a work in progress. The four corner subs are driven via DSP with the results of measurements and MSO processing...

Active vs Passive Speakers... Do you have a preference?

Active without question! For the analogue purists, crossovers can be done with analogue filters. By their very nature, passive crossover components in a conventional speaker add impedence between the amplifer output and the driver, which is not ideal. It also means that amplifier choice becomes...

    Best Budget DIY Speaker Kit?

I use mine for both 2-ch and 7+1+4. For surround mode, only the front L,R & C are LXminis. Also, the L & R are now LXmini+2 as I have two 10" dipole subs. In addition, there are four 10" conventional subs in the room corners which are driven from the LFE channel, leaving the LXmini subs for...

    Best Budget DIY Speaker Kit?

Hi Todd, That's a tight budget but the first thing I would do is swat up on centre speaker designs so as to avoid the combing pitfalls. Here's a good start with some nice graphics to help with understanding the problems: In my case with LXmini for the mains, I just constructed another one...

    Top 5 BEST Speaker Companies

Remember that four, or six with the subs option, of power amplification is required plus a DSP which bumps up the project cost, depending on what one already has to hand. For me that was not a problem, as an electronic engineer I just added channels to my amp build and wired in a 4 in/8 out...

    Top 5 BEST Speaker Companies

Other than the Harman experiments Sonnie referred to above and which probably did not include a design by SL, I suspect not. The equipment and facilities to do so are way beyond the average guy to do at home, even full time reviewers. I was of course being a little provocative with my post for a...

Setting up 4 subs and phase alignment...

You are fortunate! Usually it's only my wife an I but even so, trying to get even bass has been a nightmare. My room is virtually square and height is around half the width/length, so not a good start. Layout is pretty much fixed as needs to also be a "liveable room". Room modes are very strong...

I saw the multiple seats in your photos at the start of this thread and assumed you were looking for multi-seat fixes.
