Newly upgraded speakers now bright, harsh. Questions about how to determine what part of the upgrade caused this.

I have a denon 8500 and their eq app so I can do some changes, but I'm not usually a fan of audyssey for music so if I can avoid that I'd prefer to. I'll play around with everything again tonight. I did do a quick eq drop of everything over 5k 6db and voices and other sounds still sounded 95%+...

Newly upgraded speakers now bright, harsh. Questions about how to determine what part of the upgrade caused this.

Is there a way to detect "harshness" with REW? Perhaps in impulse response or some other test? I'm trying to determine if/what I can do for crossover in the speaker or bi-amp, or if I'm our of luck because it's the natural behavior of an AMT tweeter or phase plug woofer. I recently upgraded my...

No audio output in 5.20 RC5 (Linux)

Sorry, I should have attached logs to be more helpful than 'it's just broke'. Feb 11, 2021 11:50:49 AM roomeqwizard.RoomEQ_Wizard main INFO: REW V5.20 running JRE 1.8.0_282 64-bit on linux 4.4.0-201-generic, en, US, UTF-8 at 96 DPI Feb 11, 2021 11:51:03 AM roomeqwizard.DD A SEVERE: Timed out...

No audio output in 5.20 RC5 (Linux)

I b-tree tested all beta versions to find out where/which version audio broke. It's actually recent where the issue began. RC2 works fine, RC3, RC4 and RC5 do not. I checked change log and I don't see anything that stands out, although I did try different sample rates in Preferences and...

No audio output in 5.20 RC5 (Linux)

To start, 5.19 works great and I don't have any issues with it. I can even switch back to .19 after trying .20 RC5 and .19 works so .20 RC5 is not locking up a buffer or causing an IO, driver or system issue. In fact, .20 RC5 shows it's outputting audio fine when doing measurements (in the REW...

Thoughts on my first REW attempts

I tried RC5 tonight but never could get it to output audio from my Linux laptop. .19 works so I'm not sure what's going on yet. I switched to my wife's windows laptop and hit another block where asio4all would change which channel/speaker it was outputting audio to. 1.1 would sometimes to go...

Thoughts on my first REW attempts

Thanks for the review, that was extremely helpful and I'll continue on with your suggestions. I spent all last night reading more about the differences and pieces of each REW graph and the purposes of them. I had used REW about 10 years ago but not very in-depth as I'm trying to now. I have a...

Thoughts on my first REW attempts

I've measured my 7 bed layer of my 7.1.6 (Denon X8500H) 3 times. Without Audessey, Flat, and Ref(erence). I'll note that I need to investigate why Flat and Reference are killing highs on my RSL, RSR and Center (odd...) but without Audyssey active the speakers don't have the drop out above 10k...
