Human Loudspeakers Model 81 Review Thread

Ok - Here is the final write up on the Human Model 81's. These speakers were a real trip down memory lane. For those of us old enough to remember what audio was like in the late 70's, before CD's, the Human 81's are a tribute to that era. They are an exceptionally versatile loudspeaker with the...

Wayne - My business life has been insanity. Nothing bad - just really busy. I can tell you these speakers are absolute gems, especially for $540. I will get the complete write up as soon as possible. Their next destination will be in my son's guitar recording studio.

Human Loudspeakers Model 81 Review Thread

We are getting close to wrapping things up here. The 81's continue to impress, especially for a hand built, American made speaker selling for $540. I have fired up a variety of discs from Tony Bennett, Diana Krall, Pink Floyd, Supertramp, Mozart and even Bob Seager. About a week ago, the Axiom...

Hi guys - This was one heck of a ten days for the dealership. The crew fixing the cars has been amazing. Some of the vehicles had more than 500 hail dents, and when fixed, one would never know there was ever any damage. Back to the speakers - Last Sunday, I added the EP-800 to the mix to see...

Human Loudspeakers Model 81 Review Thread

Hi all - A quick update: I have been swamped with business issues, one of which is a major hail storm that damaged every vehicle on our lot. Insurance is stepping in nicely, and we will be fine, but listening time has been sparse. The listening lately has been casual movie watching, but even...

    Center Channels...

Jack - That is a great center channel. I had one with the Klipsch Belles 15 years ago and have the RC-64 II now. It's a tremendous performer, and the difference between it and the Axiom is pretty minor. It meshes very well with the LaScala's.

    Center Channels...

The center channel is the most important speaker, although I have had great success using a phantom center with some speakers. Of the dozens of center channels I have owned or auditioned, this is my favorite: https://www.axiomaudio.com/vp180-center-channel-speaker The "high power" version...

Grayson - The LS50's certainly have gotten some great press. The -3dB spec on the 5.25 inch driver is 79 Hz vs. -2 dB at 41 Hz on the 81. The larger enclosure and driver (a bit over double the radiating area) will make for a much fuller sounding speaker with the 81. If one reads enough reviews...

Time for a quick update - It has been a long week at the dealership, with some easy listening at night. What these speakers did with another old favorite, Steely Dan's "AJA" is wonderful. I was totally lost in music, with a real appreciation for how they get the bass just right. It will be a...

    Subwoofer Nirvana

Delivering high output with a 112 foot wavelength needs a lot of air movement. Thus - 137 pounds of 18 inch drivers/amp/enclosure. :T

Wayne - In 1980, I was fortunate enough to land the dream job for a guy paying his own way through college - selling audio equipment for a store called Transcendental Audio (the owner was a hippie who opened it in 1972 at the age of 22). Our lines included Technics, NAD, Bose, Hitachi, Carver...

    Subwoofer Nirvana

Anyone wanting subwoofer nirvana without having to build his own units should look at the Power Sound Audio S-3611. It nails everything - output, linearity in the upper bass, 10 Hz extension ... and with duals under $4000 delivered ... they can fill any room. This sub will outgun anything else...

Today's disc was the SACD of Roger Water's "In The Flesh." It's an unusual disc in that it has dozens of challenges for an audio system - powerful bass, soaring female vocals, odd sound effects, grungy amps ... the list is pretty long. In "Another Brick In The Wall," there is a bit in which a...

Ok - The speakers are now on my trusty Sound Anchor stands, and after 24 hours of break in, it was time for some music and listening. First up is what many have used as a standard for 30 years - The Cowboy Junkies "The Trinity Session." For those who don't know this disc, it is a live...
