What is your music and/or media server?

With Roon, you can connect to storage on multiple devices and shares. It does not have to be directly connected. I personally have only connected my roon core directly with a 4 TB drive. I back up on a synology and I also keep another copy of the drive on another machine on my network.

What is your music and/or media server?

Correct. Note that the $500 i& configuration is for 12,000 (or more) albums and/or DSP. If your needs are less than that you can go for the cheaper i3 configuration. If you wanted to run fanless, you might be able check on the roon forums to see if anyone had recommendations. If you really...

What is your music and/or media server?

I currently use a NUC as spec'ed by Roon for large libraries and run ROCK (the Roon Optimized Core Kit) for the OS. This uses an i7 and costs $520 for everything you need except the hard drive. I use a 4 TB external WD Passport drive to store my music. I have also used a regular PC for the...

Connecting an Emotiva XPA-9 to a Yamaha RX-A3070

Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A3070 AV Receiver Review

Michael, Yes.. It really is a bummer. I really wish that you could get the feature set of the 3070 in a pure pre-amp for substatially less than the receiver itself. Or a higher end model with expansion slots, like the Emotiva RMC-1 - but with a lower price tag. NAD has some interesting stuff...

Connecting an Emotiva XPA-9 to a Yamaha RX-A3070

Michael, In regard to question #1, I don't think that you can use all of the channels on the XPA-9. The Yamaha lets you insert an external amp for the 2 front left/right channels OR up to four of the surround channels. If you look at the rear of the Yamaha, you will only see 4 plugs for...

The Death of High-Performance Audio at CES and 8K Musings

In regard to the 8K comments, I'm much more of an audiophile than a videophile. Despite this, video has driven a lot of upgrades to my audio system. For me, 8K is just not going to be worth an upgrade. DVD was a huge upgrade and I jumped in the month it was released. Blu-ray was a nice bump...

Onkyo, Pioneer, and Integra AVRs Receive “Works with Sonos” Firmware Update

Networked audio is here. It is really very, very good. I'm using Roon/Yamaha Musiccast/Oppo Udp-205 and the quality/flexibility really changes how I listen to music. If you are a company producing an AV receiver you need to have networking capabilities now. It looks like...

End of an Era: OPPO Digital Announces Its Retirement

If you buy a second player, pull it out of the box and start using it while you can still get warranty service. This should ensure that you have two good functional players for years. . .

    Speaker Evolution Owner's Thread

High School/College: 1978-1983 - Radio Shack Realistic 3 Way speakers I can't remember the model number for the Radio Shacks. They sounded pretty good at the time. Lasted till the end of my senior year in college and the tweeter died in one. It was still under warranty so I had it replaced...
